This group for hardware or software or both?31 Jan 2006 18:57 GMT2
mac.comm I though would refer to hardware related communications stuff
like ethernet, modems, etc.  Or is it communication related software?
Or both?

Just after a mail server 'relay' whatever...
I have a bunch of users in 2 offices.  My office and another.
Is it possible to setup Mail server that comes with OS x, to retrieve
email from the POP accounts, and then put it into a local  LAN mailbox,
(Beginner's question!) New iMacs, Airport Express, and 3rd Party router...30 Jan 2006 19:45 GMT3
I'm replacing my existing PC-based system with a new iMac (Intel-based, if
that makes any difference.)
I'm hoping to keep my 3Com wireless router/ADSL modem.  Seems the iMac comes
with Airport Extreme built in, and according to Apple.com should be able to
Difficulty Connecting to Wireless Network30 Jan 2006 19:31 GMT5
I'm running OS X 10.4.4 on a 1.67 MHz 17" PowerBook. At home I use a LInksys
WRT54GC wireless router which is shared by two Macs. The problem I have is
that when returning from somewhere else where I have made a wireless
connection I have difficulty making a wireless connection ...
video chat with PC user?30 Jan 2006 14:59 GMT8
Sorry, I haven't done any research on this at all, and I don't have a
camera hooked up to any of my machines, but a good friend wants to be
able to hook up with his family in Europe so they can all see each other
and he's had no success so far. He's got an iMac G5 (PPC) and a ...
Limewire won't launch29 Jan 2006 23:28 GMT15
I've used this version before under this version of OS X,
and it has always worked. When I try to launch it, the icon
blinks (in the dock) but then stops blinking after 10
seconds.
playing flash based web radio through airport express?29 Jan 2006 18:18 GMT2
I have an airport express that I have set up to work with iTunes.  In
iTunes I can select whether the sound routes out to the airport express
or to the computer's audio output.  But I want to use a web based radio
station (Pandora) and I don't know how to make the browser sound ...
Airport express and palm TX pda29 Jan 2006 12:54 GMT4
How can I get a Palm TX wifi to work with a Apple Airport Express. The
pda sees the Apple Network but will not connect to the internet. I
think my problem is the AAE uses a 128 bit wep and the Palm doesn't
have a 128 bit wep option. Must I set both to a 40 bit wep?
Telephone over wireless Ethernet Bridge29 Jan 2006 10:51 GMT7
I am trying to do something that everyone I talk with says can be done
in theory, but nobody has actually done it.  Perhaps someone here can
help.
I am trying to connect a corded telephone to a telephone jack via two
Two computers on one DSL line29 Jan 2006 04:59 GMT15
I have SBC DSL and it works great with my Mac G4. My wife now wants a PC
and I wonder if I can install her PC on one of the four DSL pig tail
adapters and be able to use both the Mac and the PC at the same time?

Is FasterMac and TurboMac good as an accelerated dialup ISP?28 Jan 2006 21:44 GMT13
What has been people's experience with FasterMac and their Accelerated
dialup service? The claims they make on their web-site are attractive,
but I know noting about their technical and business reliability. I
really like my current ISP, who are vastly better than the one I had
[DHCP] Not receiving IP adddress28 Jan 2006 07:01 GMT4
I'm setting up a LinkSys WRT54G to do NAT and DHCP but find that an
Ethernetted SE/30 running System 7.1 with MacTCP doesn't receive an IP
address. (Other machines, running newer OS versions, receive an IP
address just fine and the SE/30 used to receive an IP address just fine
Modem for iMac G528 Jan 2006 06:07 GMT36
Any recommendations for a modem to be used with an iMac G5. Will be used
mainly for occasional faxes and for phone dial-out from a contact data
base.
Guys at the Apple store are pushing (naturally) the Apple modem. Good
Unexplained Network Activity28 Jan 2006 05:16 GMT22
I'm mystified.  Four or five times over the last week, when I'm the only
one on a computer, my little home network suddenly gets tied up with
internet activity I can't seem to identify.  I have no outstanding
downloads and I have Firefox (& others) configured to NOT check for
Taps for Internet Explorer...27 Jan 2006 18:47 GMT238
We now have a final date for the death certificate:
"...as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac will no

Macintosh users migrate to more recent web browsing technologies such as
