Possible security problem?31 Jul 2005 01:52 GMT25
I am running a Mac G5 with 10.3.9 and have just discovered that at
regular but intermittent intervals, several times an hour, the process
nmbd attempts to make a UDP contact with a wide variety of addresses
mostly US based, but some European, on various ports ranging from 135 to
RealPlayer 10 -- what's your experience?27 Jul 2005 21:33 GMT25
I've had horrible experiences installing and using all versions of Real
Player in the past.
I'm willing to try again, with version 10, but I'd like to know others'
experiences first.
Battery problem27 Jul 2005 17:15 GMT6
Is this as bad as it sounds?   A week ago, I had a problem with my iBook.  It
froze up installing something and I couldn't shut if off in any method.  So I
removed the battery which of course made it turn off.  After replacing it,
I've found after getting a full charge it will go ...

Problem using OS X personal file sharing on wireless network26 Jul 2005 14:49 GMT4
As I posted some time back, I have a small wireless network
set up in my house. I am using two Linksys WRT54G wireless
routers instead of Apple AirPort equipment.
The network currently consists of two Macs and two routers:
Mac to Win XP network connection not working26 Jul 2005 11:47 GMT1
Wanting to use the resources on my Mac via a network cable connection to my
Win XP  machine.

Very slow apple file sharing from G5 over cablemodem. Please    advise about fastest way to access remote files.26 Jul 2005 10:14 GMT9
I'm noticing a data transfer rate problem that I'm hoping someone can help
me troubleshoot. I'm at home, on a broadband connection, which according to
2wire.com has a rate of 217.90 Kbps. At work, I have a Mac G5, 2 CPUs at 2
GHz each, running OS X10.3.9, not doing anything other ...
Virtual PC25 Jul 2005 09:39 GMT12
I'm still tossing the idea around about getting V-PC and am once again
wondering.  Does it run fast?  I mean, at least as fast at the Mac OS
I'm using? (OS-X 10.2.8)  The only Windows OS I have is Win 98 so that
is what I'll be using as I'm certainly not prepared to upgrade to
AirPort Extreme wireless, but how is it with Ethernet?24 Jul 2005 17:17 GMT3
I'm a new user of apple computers.  I have purchased an AirPort Extreme
Base Station.  I am planning the following setup:
(1)Connect dsl to base station
(2)Connect my laptop to the wireless network that is now set up
Auto re-connect for dropped streaming video connection?22 Jul 2005 22:24 GMT2
I've got a decent DSL connection, but occasionally it drops and I have to
re-connect to it. This is with Windows Media Player (OS X).
Similar to wget command used in Terminal to fetch a file, I'd like some means
to automatically re-connect to a video stream when it disconnects.
Sending arbitrary TCP packets22 Jul 2005 21:21 GMT1
I'm trying to decode the protocol for an IP camera. I have ethereal
installed and have seen what goes back and forth.
I'ld like to try replaying some of the simpler messages that are used
from a PC (with ActiveX) to display live video from the camera.
Why is IE faster with my Tiger?22 Jul 2005 09:56 GMT1
I have a new iMac G5, running 10.4.2. Safari 2.0 from time to time runs very
slowly, and pages won't open "because the server is not responding." I get
similar results with FireFox, but not with IE. I checked with Apple Tech
Support, and they had me clear Safari's cache and reset, ...
Apple V90 modem connecting at 33,6 Kbps:  Why ?21 Jul 2005 03:02 GMT2
Hi again,
Another question, this time concerning the internal modem of a PowerMac
G4 400 Mhz : It never connects at a higher "speed" than 33600 bps. I
tried two different providers, but the result is always the same. On the
Mac Mail junk filter not working19 Jul 2005 19:56 GMT10
I'm running 10.4.1 on an iMac G5. I migrated from an older version of
Eudora to Mac Mail, using the Eudora Mailbox Cleaner application. I used
only 1 filter in Eudora, and I have since deleted it.
My Junk mail filter in Mail is not marking any junk, of which I get
Ethernet sniffing software18 Jul 2005 23:44 GMT2
I've tried installing ethereal (via fink) but ran into syntax errors
on compilation.
Does anyone know of any other ethernet sniffing software (freeware?)
Thanks,
