WEP or WAP on Panther30 Jun 2005 22:46 GMT3
I have been trying to set up the wireless security on my home network -
between my Actiontec DSL "modem"/router/wifi and my G4 TiBook using a
Belkin PCcard notebook wireless network card.
My trouble is finding how to configure my Powerbook (running 10.3.3) to
What's Causing the Mail Delay?30 Jun 2005 19:54 GMT9
I send and receive email via mac.com
A friend sends and receives email via austin.rr.com
If she sends me an email I receive it virtually instantly.
If I send her an email it takes several minutes for her to receive it.
G3 (beige) networking problem28 Jun 2005 18:11 GMT2
I've lost the ability to connect to other macs on my network from
this computer.  Whenever I open chooser, as soon as I click on
another computer, this computer(G3) locks up.  Force Quit doesn't
work.  I must restart.  I think the ethernet card is working
How to limit b/w per application?28 Jun 2005 01:38 GMT2
I want to prevent certain applications from hogging DSL bandwidth. Is there a
simple way to slice up the b/w pie, granting only so much b/w to each app?
The Google results I come up with all discuss using a PC router, or such,
with custom b/w mgmt. software.
Verizon FIOS Mac speed question.26 Jun 2005 08:16 GMT9
I just got Verizon's FIOS fiber optic internet service.  So far it is
great.  It came with a DL speed of 5 Mb/s and I paid an additional $10
per month to upgrade to 15 Mb/s.  Well, I'm only getting about 3.5-4.5
Mb/s.  The tech who didn't understand Macs said that there is an
Internet Connection With NETGEAR and XP26 Jun 2005 00:12 GMT1
In my home, there are three computers.  There is one main one that has
all of the cables and the wires and the others are connected to it
wirelessly through a NETGEAR PCI adaptor.  I just upgraded one of my
other computers (not the main one) from Windows 2000 to Windows XP.  I
Newbie networking questions (many)... Help23 Jun 2005 20:42 GMT5
I suspect I'm way in over my head here, so bear with me.
I and my girlfriend both work at home -- she on her G4 iMac, I on mine.
Sometimes one of us goes away on business and takes our G4 laptop,
meaning that before every trip there's a lot of back-and-forth file
Thoth question23 Jun 2005 12:57 GMT3
I had deleted my Thoth preferences to maybe cure the whole newsreading
thing. Now that I am up and running again, I have a question about some
preference settings.
Before, if I went into a group, say, alt.binaries.mac.applications, I
Good/supported wireless PC Card for TiBook/Tiger22 Jun 2005 18:22 GMT4
Ok. I've been struggling with a few things since upgrading to Tiger. Two
problems are with my wireless networking. A week prior to upgrading, I
bought a D-Link DI-624 router and a DWG-G650X PC Card. They worked fine
under Panther. As soon as I upgraded the OS:
Netgear  WG511T wifi card and PowerbookG4/Tiger ?21 Jun 2005 13:28 GMT5
I could have a bargain on the Netgear WG511T wifi pcmcia card. Will I be
able to use it on my Powerbook G4/800 (no airport) under Tiger ?
The Netgear site gives only compatibility with Windows :-(
Thanks a lot,
How many Mac users do you need to change a light bulb ???19 Jun 2005 22:07 GMT16
Answer : None
Mac users don't know anything about sophisticated devices like ligh bulbs.
They have to call a Windows user to do the job !
Cookies don't remember me....19 Jun 2005 05:59 GMT1
I am wondering why certain web sites do not "remember me" (including
this one) consistently even though I have my browser set to accept
cookies. Do they expire? What happens if I access a site and log in
from a different computer? Will that void the "remembering" on the
Newsgroup problem - HELP!19 Jun 2005 03:13 GMT2
I hope someone can help me. For the past two days, I have not been able
to download anything from any groups in Thoth or MT-newswatcher. I can
open the groups and post, but it will not let me download anything.
The only thing that I did recently is use the new TechTool pro for OSX
ZTerm or other terminal emulator?18 Jun 2005 23:06 GMT5
I have a need to connect my Mac (OS X 10.3.7) to an RS-232 device.
I believe I can use a Keyspan USB  serial adapter to convert USB to
RS-232, now all I need is a terminal emulation program to communicate
with the device.
Mac Network Applications18 Jun 2005 16:17 GMT7
I have something of a dilemma.   I have several 68k Macs that are doing
nothing but collecting dust.   I want to network all of these Macs together
and get them working on something.   I don't really care what they do, I
just want them doing something.
