Complicated firewall question08 Jan 2005 17:23 GMT1
I have a reasonably simple setup of a modem/router connected to the
Internet and a PowerBook on the home network. I would like to be able
to host a service that serves web content (not apache) from an
arbitrary port (for arguments sake 8080) on my powerbook _but_ with the
Splitting up digests08 Jan 2005 17:19 GMT1
Is there a plug-in for Mail.app that will split digests into their
component messages?  I've subscribed to a mailing list that's sent out
as digests, and it would be nice if I could see the individual messages
more easily.
Do I Need a Router For Firewall?08 Jan 2005 01:48 GMT7
I'm new to this, so please consider me to be a "Firewall
challenged"type.  I'm running an iMac G4, w/ Panther, and I hope to
switch from dial-up to Comcast cable. I have turned on the firewall in
Panther, and I'm also running iPNetSentryX.  My iMac is the only
"bad-traffic tcp port 0 traffic" question07 Jan 2005 06:12 GMT2
Noticing a lot of unusual activity on my DSL router, I checked the
snort logs and see thousands of these entries, averaging about once
per second:

Per-user proxy settings?07 Jan 2005 05:35 GMT3
I'm trying to set up Privoxy on my home network to filter web access for
my kids. It's mostly pretty easy: set up Privoxy to allow only specific
URLs (my kids are pretty young as of yet), tell it to accept proxy
connections from anywhere on my network (it's behind a NAT box so I
Is my Router all I need for Firewall protection?05 Jan 2005 11:20 GMT7
I've had cable modem for five months now and its great of course.
I'm under the impression that the cable modem acts as a firewall and it's all I
need. Also the Router acts as a firewall and its all I need.
Also, that it may not be good to have two firewalls.
Any Application to Sniff VOIP Packets?05 Jan 2005 11:12 GMT5
I just got an internet telephone hookup but I can't see the packets on
the LAN using EtherPeek, Interarchy, or the OS X Network Utility.
Does anyone know of a utility to view these packets?  I am interested
in sending ring packets to the controller to test my house phones and
Azureus help04 Jan 2005 17:28 GMT2
I just downloaded the Java bitTorrest client Azureus
<http://azureus.sourceforge.net/> During setup it recommends using TCP
port 6881 & it lets you test the port -- when I did I got 'NAT error.'
Since my cable internet connection is otherwise fine, I assume that my

Newtwork w/ OS 8.6 & XP: Help?03 Jan 2005 13:25 GMT7
Would appreciate constructive comments on how to net work with two PC's
running XP on my home network.
Briefly, I have a Linksys/Comcast Router/Gateway, with the PC's running
Window XP on a wireless LAN through the router, and my OLD Mac PPC G3
Networking questions for Airport Express experts03 Jan 2005 09:42 GMT2
I would like to add an Airport Express to my wired network, to play

I have not been able to establish, if the following scenarios are possible:

Bluetooth-induced crash03 Jan 2005 02:36 GMT1
My machine (a new G4 PowerBook running OS X 10.3.7, software up-to-date)
just crashed - a full-on hang, with the little grey 'press your power
button' message popping up.
What induced this was a bluetooth transaction: another machine, running
