What is the meaning of the various colors - red, yellow, etc. - in the
description of Ethernet cables?
And, is a "patch" cable the same thing as a "crossover?"

Hi could someone tell me how long has Apples Xserve been out for and
what did apple use before the xsereve on the old G3 macs. I heard it
use to be a G3 Mac with a SCSII Card..

My wife and I both work from home. Between us we have a B/W G3, a MDD G4 and
a G3 laptop. At the moment we're using two different dialup accounts to
connect to the internet.

Hi just wondering if someone out there can tell me how long fiber
optic networks for small business has been out for and how often is it
installed. Also how long has Cat 5 been around.

Here's the situation -- at work I have a PC running WinXP pro, and the
networking software is Novell Netware. I cannot figure out how the computer gets
its IP address -- the Network control panel that I'm familiar with in XP Home is
completely different and I do not see a selection ...

I am having difficulty with new cable broadband service. After attaching
the the ethernet cable from the modem to the computer it give an IP
configuration alert.  "xx.xxx.xxx.104 in use by 0:b:46:bd:8:ed, DHCP
Server xx.xxx.xxx.126"

I just tried to send my first fax on my G5, and I'm not sure it went through.
Are you supposed to hear the sounds of the modem dialing when it faxes? Is
there any confirmation? It said it was faxing it, but the job is still on hold.

I have a graphite airport base station for and iMac and iBook both on
wireless cards. I have a cable modem with a standard router. I want to
connect a PC laptop with an Orinco (sp) Wireless card installed running

Please will someone point me in the right direction for software to
synchronize/backup my iPaq pocket pc and my Mac OS X.

email signature with replies and forwards?
I can only see an option to have it added to new messages.

I am considering getting a nokia 3660 phone to use with a Imac with no
bluetooth, can I get a cable to use instead of bluetooth? The Isync
website is unclear.

Fortunately, I have AppleCare--it's great and saves a lot of
grief.  My PB G4 started, out of the blue, putting out garbage as
I typed.  The first thing I did was try to restart, but it typed
garbage when I tried to enter my username and password.

Sorry to crosspost but this is an emergency. My daughter's friend plugged her Zip Drive into my daughter's laptop and then after a couple of minutes pulled it out without "trashing" it. The hard drive crashed. I tried running diskutility from the CD but it never recognized the ...

Is it possible to place an icon (jpg, gif, etc.) on the Document Folder which I
have located in the dock? If this is possible, how could it be done??
