In PC, what are COM ports?They are serial com ports, right? In my
computer, I find  4 ports: COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4. But I only see two
serial ports: (RS232). Where the other ports?

I need a terminal emulator using the modem for a serial connection.
dataComet will do this (I tried the demo), but I simply cannot justify
shelling out 60 bucks for it. I have several Classic terminal programs
incl. the commercial VersaTerm but it seems that Classic does not let

I have a couple different locations (Mac OS X 10.3.5, locations meaning
entries in the Apple -> Location menu), each different wireless
networks.  The problem is that often, when I switch from one to the

I've got a 2.5 GB file on a MacOS 9 machine and I want to copy it to a
MacOS 10 machine. I tried mounting one machine's disk on the other,
but I cannot copy files larger than 2GB that way. What else can I try?

Modem jsut quit. Phone line OK, get dial tone.
When I try to connect, no dial tone heard, no dialing tones.
Error dialog says "A modem error occurred."  In the past, when phone line was
bad, etc., error was "Can't detect dial tone" (or such wording).

I'll start off by owning up to the fact that I know very little about
macs. I deal almost exclusively with PCs (win and linux). So please bear
