mail.app does not fetch mail30 Jan 2004 04:46 GMT2
For the last four days mail.app has refused to fetch any mail from my
pop account.  As far as I know, I have made no changes to my system or
the mail app.  I know I have new mail because I can access my mail via
pine on the shell account at the isp.
AT&T For the Mac?29 Jan 2004 16:45 GMT2
Yes, I realize that most of you lucky (Mac)ducks have broadband but,
alas, living in between three state forests, I am still stuck with a
telephone modem.
Several people (Windozers) have told me that they really liked AT&T as
Really mysterious AppleShare prob29 Jan 2004 08:09 GMT2
I have several partitions on my hard drive. On my other Mac, I use the
Go menu to mount the first machine's partitions. All partitions except
two mount. Two of the partitions refuse to mount.
Someone suggested a bad AppleShare PDS file. I couldn't find that file
Thoth - slow w/poor threading in OS 8/9 ... any better in in OS X?29 Jan 2004 06:19 GMT8
I'm pretty unhappy with the performance of Thoth in Mac OS 8.6 which
I've been using for binaries for a couple of years.  After using MT
Newswatcher, Thoth is pretty aggravating. In particular, transfering
messages into the download queue takes way too long and prevents you
Movies in QT28 Jan 2004 16:51 GMT5
I cant seem to play many things in quicktime (mpg, mov, or even many
avi files). I get many difrent error mesages, but mostly ones that say
QuickTime has prematurely come to the end of the movie, or that a
software component is missing. I'd say that maybie 80% of the things I

If anyone has done this I'd be interested to know how. Also if anyone
happens to be in New York I would hire you to set up a working wi-fi

To commemorate this week's 20th anniversary of the Macintosh, Adam
talks with Bruce Horn, who wrote the Finder, about what he did
at Apple, where he's been since, and what Macintosh projects he's
setting default file permissions for every file created27 Jan 2004 12:09 GMT1
Not sure if this is the right group for this questions, so apologies
in advance.
My problem is that I have a small 3 Mac network set up, and I want to
have a central file server on one of the machines, so that any file
Apple's iBook27 Jan 2004 03:07 GMT11
I'm looking for information/testimonials/comments on Apple's iBook.
I'm currently in the market for a laptop.  I'm one of those guys who
hasn't used an Apple computer since elementary school, when the Apple
IIe and Apple IIGs were popular.  I've been using Windows computers
Apple Mail endangered by malicious attachments?27 Jan 2004 02:03 GMT7
We are hearing over and over again that there are email worms spreading
by including an executable Windows attachment to a mail and having
unsuspecting users execute it on their MS Windows system.
While of course this should not bother Mac users more than any other
OS X Freezes PLEASE HELP!!26 Jan 2004 21:33 GMT3
I can't stand it anymore!  My OS X always freezes when I am using a
browser! I MEAN ALWAYS!! THIS IS DRIVING ME FREAKING CRAZY!  And I
even reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything after I did
a partition between OS X and Classic!  And I am STILL GETTING MAJOR
Shortcuts for filtering in MT-NW26 Jan 2004 21:15 GMT5
I just recently upgraded to MT-NW 3.2.  What happened to the Cmd-Shift-S
and Cmd-Shift-A shortcuts for Filter This Subject and Filter This
Author?  The Version History web page says that 3.3b1 adds back some
shortcuts, but doesn't say which -- are these coming back?

I have just migrated to Panther and everything is going along smoothly
until I hit specifying group access to a folder on my machine (current
network consists of G4 tower and 2 titanium laptops)
My problem in a nutshell is that I want to have a folder on my machine
One volume won't mount via AFS26 Jan 2004 16:33 GMT1
I have Personal File Sharing enabled on a system whose hard drive has
several partitions. When I connect to that server via the Go menu, all
volumes mount except one. When I try to explicitly select only that one
volume, it fails to mount on the desktop.
