So this issue of no 5.1 surround sound in AppleTV is not quite as clear cut

Is there an easy and preferably free way to dump an AVI onto a CD such
that my DVD player will read/display it?
Does it have to be converted from AVI -> MPEG first?

I have now noticed that windows media player is not working since my upgrade

Just upgraded to 10.4 from 10.9 and now the system does not see my external
firewire drive.
If after startup I turn the drive off then on it mounts on the desktop but
