My neighbour travels with a (Titanium?) Powerbook with Panther
installed, but tells me he has problems connecting to the internet (and
sending email) when at home or indeed anyplace away from his office.  He
has left me his Powerbook for a few days for me to try to sort out the

First time poster alert!!!
I've just bought a "new" second hand G4 iMac that has system OS X loaded (V.
10.1.4).  I've been using Macs for many years and have gone through all the
sysytem 6's through to 9.2......so my brain is having to try and get itself

To continue the saga..I was also advised to stop Spotlight by making the  
entire disk private. I did it and have had three fast successful start
ups. It's a pity if this is the solution because I can't use the
features I paid for. But perhaps upgrade OS 10.3 or 4 or 5 will fix ...
