Firefox 3.5 slow in private browing mode, Safari 3.0.1 not01 Aug 2009 00:34 GMT18
Upgrading my software on a G4 eMac and Firefox 3.5 seems to be faster
except in private browsing mode when it slows to a crawl.  Anything I
can do to fix that?  Safari is much faster in private browsing mode but
will stall when downloading pages with lots of photos and graphics - ...

Broadly usable database or table formats?31 Jul 2009 16:24 GMT18
I'm working with a group that's collaborating on developing a "timeline"
-- essentially a simple database or table that has 4 columns or 4
freeform fields for each entry (Year, Name of Item, People associated
with that item, Comments and references for that item).

Can Adobe Acrobat do anything the free PDF versions can't?30 Jul 2009 07:55 GMT1
I have been Googling for ways to do  "everything"  to
PDFs, add text to them, fill out text "boxes" in
the PDF forms, add graphics, etc.
There seem to be many free apps that advertise a lot of
Why does NW ignore prefs?29 Jul 2009 21:05 GMT6
I have set my Newswatcher prefs to a readable size and font, and they
appear as set in individual messages when I open them, but sometimes the
group window opens in an ugly font and so tiny it's almost unreadable.
Is there another setting I can't find?
any Illustrator pros here... help with clipping mask29 Jul 2009 17:28 GMT2
I've read the relevant parts of the Illustrator manual and it doesn't
seem to address my problem.
I have a Chinese character that i want to use as a clipping mask for a
black to white gradient. The Chinese character is a complex vector
Freeware DVD transcoder & burner for OSX?29 Jul 2009 07:20 GMT4
On Windows there's DVD Flick - all you do is add the files and it
transcodes and burns them.
Is there something similar (and hopefully free) for OSX?
My machine came with Toast 9 but it doesn't do xvid.
MT Newswatcher29 Jul 2009 02:28 GMT35
I think I have asked this question before and have searched the group
and googled around to find the answer... So sorry if it is a faq.
I am giving MTNewswatcher a chance again.
The problem is that everytime I open MTN, then I have to browse to

Why so much spam?  What can I do about it?28 Jul 2009 06:48 GMT6
I am on MT-NewsWatcher.  I tried killing the author and even using a
sub-set of the name, like "wholesale."  The stuff still gets through.
This is the only group I read that has this problem and it is getting to
the point where the content is a very small percentage of the total ...
Safari 4 and massive CPU usage?28 Jul 2009 02:41 GMT21
I'm been looking for a couple of minutes at a currently static web page
(a Slate news story, which I think is fully loaded in), using recently
installed Safari 4 upgraded to 4.0.2, with an Apple Cinema display
connected in mirroring mode to my MacBook connected to Comcast ...
How do I convert a Resource file (.RSRC) full of snd's into WAV's???27 Jul 2009 23:42 GMT9
I have an old Macintosh resource file (.rsrc) with a lot of individual
sounds (snd's) within the file, and I'd like to batch convert or
extract them into a bunch of separate WAV files. Anyone know of a
utility that will do this (on Mac OS 10.5.7)? Thanks!
Application Clutter27 Jul 2009 23:17 GMT44
Sometimes the member applications of a suite are clustered within a single
folder within the Applications folder and sometimes they are not.
An example of non-clustering is Adobe CS3 which places 15  applications in
the Applications folder.
Does iChat work with other audio clients?27 Jul 2009 20:50 GMT5
Specifically I'm wondering if it can communicate over SIP with other
SIP clients on other operating systems, or do you both have to be using
iChat. A little googling around left me confused.  My alternative is to
install skype. Thanks,
