Unicode Vs. Shift-JIS20 Jun 2008 16:03 GMT26
I have a friend that sends me notes from his Windows box and text
utilties in Japanese.  I think this/his enclave still uses Shift-JIS
for some of their text encoding. I am of the suspicion that generally
the Mac lives in unicode-ville.
Backing up virual files question20 Jun 2008 13:23 GMT4
I have a Mac with Fusion running Windows XP and all is well. I back up

up online. But I wonder, I have a few files, stickies in Outlook on
the Windows partition, for example. How do I back them up, preferably
Unreadable CD created by Roxio Toast20 Jun 2008 12:09 GMT31
I am attempting to move some files off of an older Macintosh for storage
and transfer.  I therefore found and purchased an appropriate version of
Roxio Toast and a CD ROM writer in order to accomplish this.
The system is OS8.6, and the version of Roxio Toast I have is Titanium 5.0.1
Firefox 3 bug20 Jun 2008 03:20 GMT13
There seems to be something wrong with the character encoding of
Firefox 3. It does not stick to the values set, but need changing each
time the browser starts up.

Obviously from the subject line I am a developer. :)
I would like to know if anyone out there has had experience using
VMWare on iMac with XP with the XP VM running Oracle 11g or any
version for that matter and/or running SQL Server as well. They don't
Can any Mac apps dial a phone number?19 Jun 2008 18:39 GMT26
Wondering if any apps like Address Book or iCal or non-Apple ones have
the option so you could highlight a number and a keyboard shortcut would
initiate dialing.  Ultimately, the app would work so any number
highlighted in any program could be dialed.  Of course you'd need a
Perplexing PDF19 Jun 2008 17:33 GMT11
I just bought a wireless router, an "AirLink 101".
The documentation came in the form of a PDF on an included CD. Dragged
the PDF to my desktop (OS X 10.4.11), where it shows the standard "PDF"
icon. Double-clicked. Preview came to the foreground, but the file never
Firefox vs Opera19 Jun 2008 15:25 GMT7
I'm a long time Opera user (I paid for my license), who switched to
Firefox because it had Foxmarks available.   My Firefox for OS X at
home and my Firefox for Windows at work always have the same
bookmarks.
Windows Activation19 Jun 2008 15:07 GMT1
I've used bootcamp to install Windows Vista and Parallels to run it.
But I remember reading somewhere not to activate Windows until both were
working correctly.  I've been googling around but can't find out the
recommendation as to whether to activate within dual booted Win or
Mac dental software19 Jun 2008 12:59 GMT5
I am doing some very unofficial enquiries for my dentist here in Canada,
because I wasn't much impressed by his IT consultant who said to switch
from Mac to PC (or buy Windows software and run in Parallels) to run his
practice now that the software he is currently using is ...
Is there a way to repair my iMovie install?19 Jun 2008 02:21 GMT28
Dear friends:
Is there a way to repair my iMovie install?
I received iLife08, including iMovie, already installed when I bought
my MacBook Pro in last December. But now, when I try to run iMovie, it
ical/ isync problem19 Jun 2008 01:05 GMT1
I've got a Sony Ericsson K320i phone and I normally sync my calendar
(ical) and address book through isync.
In ical I checked the automatic birthday's calendar.
The problem is that in some (not all) people's birthday dates the
Excel 2008 and PopCharX18 Jun 2008 21:59 GMT2
Has anyone noticed a problem running Excel 2008 with PopCharX?
Recently I noticed that when I am entering data into Excel cells, data
entry will automatically terminate after around 3 seconds (as if
carriage return had been pressed) and any further data will replace
iPhoto question18 Jun 2008 19:17 GMT20
I have heard that some recent iteration of iPhoto has changed the way
iPhoto accesses ones photo collection.  In the past iPhoto has
downloaded the photos of ones collection as new files into iPhoto, thus
duplicating the files.  Does a new iteration of iPhoto just record the
Convert DVD which Plays on Mac to play on a DVD Video Machine18 Jun 2008 18:14 GMT9
I have a TV series Huff: Season II which I downloaded because it is
