Safari and PDFs11 Dec 2007 21:03 GMT1
I noted the following hint in Safar 2.
"You can make Safari 2.0 treat PDFs the way Safari 1.X did (that is,
save them to your default download folder). Here's how: Quit Safari,
launch Terminal, and type the following:
Basic Notation on OS X Calculator?11 Dec 2007 18:41 GMT2
I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on a Macbook Pro.
How do I change the notation on the built-in calculator?
RPN is turned off, and the calculator is set to basic mode.
So why does 20 * 50 = 1e+03 instead of just 1000?
download widget?11 Dec 2007 16:30 GMT3
I've been looking for a widget that will monitor the total amount of
data sent and received over my broadband connection. I've had a hunt
around but can only find widgets for specific isp's. Is there a widget
that will work for any isp i.e. just monitor the amount of traffic
Google Desktop11 Dec 2007 12:04 GMT1
Watch out for this app.  I installed it when it first came out and had a
lot of trouble.  I decided to wait for a later version.  I just
installed that and it caused all sorts of problems with mail and other
programs that access the internet, eventually causing my computer to
iTunes 7.5 painfully slow11 Dec 2007 04:34 GMT13
iTunes 7.5, OS 10.5.1, G5 iMac.
I admit I have too much music in iTunes: 270GB.
Is that why iTunes is so painfully slow to do *anything*?
If so, how much music do I have to delete in order to get reasonable
How can I download .lit files w/o using MS Reader.11 Dec 2007 04:25 GMT1
I have a program on my Mac G4  called " libprs500" . This program is
designed to convert .lit eBOOK files into .lrf files and export them
into the Sony Reader device.  However one can also load
"certain" .lit books into the libprs programs library and read  them
Sleep mode and hard drives11 Dec 2007 00:50 GMT3
When I quickly press the button on the back of my iMac to put it in
monitor sleep mode does that also put the hard drives in sleep?
Thanks!

Azureus 3.0.4.0 & Current Java Query10 Dec 2007 23:03 GMT1
Running OS X 10.4.11. on a 1.25ghz dp G4 and the Azureus 3.0.4.0, I
have been stricken by the 100% CPU usage scenario...    A little
reading around tells me that I should check to be sure that I have the
most current Java installed.  I downloaded J2SE 5.0 Release 4 (PPC):
Can't open/close Firefox OS X 10.4.11 HELP10 Dec 2007 19:45 GMT2
I had two versions of Firefox (1.07 and 2.0).  I finally trashed
1.07...  but when I tried to open 2.0 I received a message:  There is
already one copy of Firefox open. Only one copy can be open at a
time.  I cleared caches, repaired permissions rebooted and still got
Anacron Repeating Daily Operation with Tiger 10.4.1110 Dec 2007 19:12 GMT3
Formerly, when I used Anacron with OS 10.4.10, none of the steps of the
daily maintenance run would be repeated. Now, with 10.4.11 installed,
the log shows that the operation repeats once after what was previously
the last entry ("Rotating log files:system log"). Is this normal
iPhoto'08 Query10 Dec 2007 16:42 GMT1
Running 7.1.1 and unable to find what I need in the on-line Help.
In the Source pane, under "Recent" there is a persistent item that I'd like to
remove but have been unable to figure out how to do it.
At the top of the "Recent" category is a yellow-framed Event.  How do I get
Q:: iLife--new vs. old10 Dec 2007 13:55 GMT4
I recall seeing several posts concerning the fact that one of the
iLife'08 programs is missing some features that were in an older
version.  These posts also mentioned that it is possible to run both
versions.  The only thing I don't mention is which program it is.
Disk Warrior, TechTool, iDefrag10 Dec 2007 07:33 GMT25
I'd like to do better system maintenance than I've been doing, and am looking at
these three utilities. All seem to be worthwhile. I'm wondering if buying any
two would make the third superfluous. I'm also wondering which order to run them
in, every month or two.
iTunes Sound Gone to Hell...10 Dec 2007 05:56 GMT6
Good grief.  I downloaded the new iPod update (1.2.3) and, all of a
sudden, my sound volume in iTunes has decreased so much that I cannot
hear most podcasts or songs well enough even at the highest volume
setting.  Perhaps it is a coincidence but that would be hard to swallow.
Simple free database10 Dec 2007 05:06 GMT20
With Apple announcing that they are no longer going to supply Works with
new versions of the OS can anyone supply the name of a simple database
that's free to download and use.
I only want it for things like Xmas card lists, and records of CD's and
