I have the Rosetta Stone.  RS uses quicktime.  It is the only reason I
have quicktime on my machine.  It works fine on my XP machine until it
tries to display a moving image.  I get a display error and it exits.
I have tried changing the compatibility mode and no setting stops the

Having tired of ripping my CD's (it's a large collection), I had a

Hey, does anyone know how to disable this thing?  Or even better,
is there a way to turn off the entire dashboard?
They were merely a waste of memory until a few weeks ago. Then,

CD burner cutting beginning of tracks from iTunes22 Nov 2007 11:48 GMT1
So, this seems like a weird problem that i have not encountered
before, and just began today.  My CD/DVD burner is cutting off the
first second of every track that it plays.  It happens with CD's i
burned, as well as with store-bought CD's.  If i double-click on an
Imprtant to update firmware?22 Nov 2007 06:07 GMT31
Apple Updater indicated recently that a firmware update is available.
I used Apple Updater to download Imac EFI Firmware Update.
Is it important to install that update?
I have a Late 2006 Imac and OS 10.4.10.
Safari Upgrade21 Nov 2007 23:44 GMT3
My wife upgraded her Safari last night - and it now won't work.   She
clicks on a URL and nothing happens.   The URL window doesn't have the
URL, although it is displayed above it where she can't cut and paste
it.    Type in a URL, nothing happens.  Enter in the Google window,
Does Apple "push" Software Updates?21 Nov 2007 10:23 GMT9
Whenever the Software Update window opens spontaneously to show me that
one or more updates to various programs are available and I select them
and click OK, it seems that the large downloads that are involved must
have already been made, since the updating goes much faster than ...

What newsreader with Leopard?20 Nov 2007 20:12 GMT45
My Mac mini is due to be delivered shortly and I shall, hopefully, be able
to say farewell to the dark side.
What piece(s) of software will be best for me to read newsgroups such as
this one and for downloading binaries?

My mother has a snowball iMac that we gave her several years ago. This
year for XMas, we are giving her a new iMac.  I plan on buying it ahead
of time and loading up all her favorite apps.
My question -- can I do that install first, then take it to her house,
