Word counting10 Oct 2007 01:06 GMT8
I am looking for an editor or word processor that will load a text file
and break it down into single word usage of how many times a word is
used in a document? There are lots that do a word count of sorts, but I
have not found any that count occurrences of individual words. I ...
Mail and deleting messages10 Oct 2007 01:00 GMT7
Have had the experience of deleting messages in the inbox of
Mail.app (Version 2.1, Tiger latest, Powermac) by simple select
and keyboard Delete but them *not* showing up in the Mail Trash
folder. Not sure if I am missing something here.
Dungeon of Doom?09 Oct 2007 21:56 GMT1
I have two questions:
a) How well, if at all, would the current Macintosh models run really
classic games like Dark Castle and Dungeon of Doom?
b) Is there a website or online resource where one can purchase such
What are the chances of getting old Macintosh games to run on a brand new iMac?09 Oct 2007 21:49 GMT21
I'm talking about games like Ancient Art of War, Cap'n Magneto,
Dungeon of Doom, Dark Castle, and Paper Airplane. Maybe even MacVegas
or World Builder (loved Radical Castle).
Combining podcast lists/files in iTunes?09 Oct 2007 19:49 GMT1
I have what might a weird problem. Hopefully, I can explain it properly...
I'm using iTunes for organzing  my podcasts. I subscribed to a public feed from a particular service, and received (and kept) a bunch of
podcasts from that. Then the service switched to a personalized option ...
Progress bar in iTunes?09 Oct 2007 04:24 GMT4
I start the download of an audio lecture from iTunes U (I'm just
downloading it, not "playing" it or listening to it).
A little spinning disk and a colored circle with a "1" in  it appear
beside a name in the left column of the iTunes window.
Attachments and Mail09 Oct 2007 04:14 GMT26
I have had so many cases of Windows people not being able to
properly get attachments via Mail that I am starting to lose
confidence in attaching things. Mostly pics are ok. But animated
gifs and QT movies are a problem it seems. I tend to resort to
Rsync and ACLs09 Oct 2007 03:35 GMT5
The latest CVS version of rsync (3.0.0pre1 protocol version 30.PR9) now
handles OS X ACLs.
cvs -d:pserver:cvs@pserver.samba.org:/cvsroot co rsync
I haven't played with it yet, though.
Difficulty preparing BootX for trashing08 Oct 2007 16:47 GMT10
I have a start-up volume with almost everything on it. I also
have a separate HD. I backed up the main start up volume to this
separate HD at one stage via SuperDuper. But it is a bit small
for such a job these days and I have other arrangements. But I am
Virtualpc 7 w/ Xp pro - how to get just os?08 Oct 2007 15:07 GMT1
Hi...
I got a promo copy of VirtualPC 7 with Windows XP Pro.  Now I have a
need to get just the os out of it.  My wife wants a new computer but
doesn't want Vista; she'd rather have XP.  But it's hard to find vendors
Recommended Windows anti-virus apps?08 Oct 2007 10:27 GMT16
This may be flamebait, but I'd rather throw out a question about Windows
among Mac users who also use or know Windows:
I'm looking for reasonably effective, reasonably priced anti-virus
program for a new Windows XP OEM version on my new 2.2ghz MacBook Pro
SuperDuper and sparseimages - restore failure08 Oct 2007 04:20 GMT5
I just backed up my startup drive and figured that I would test the
integrity of the backup. Good thing I did! I used SuperDuper to backup
all files and chose the first image format that showed up, sparseimage.
Unfortunately, neither SuperDuper nor DiskUtility can read that

DVD burner problems07 Oct 2007 17:12 GMT1
I bought a  used G-5 Dual 1.8 GHz and when trying to burn a DVD, I got a
message saying the action was not supported in iDVD.  I was very surprised
because I've had a lot of older Macs that allowed me to use iDVD.  Is there
a firmware update I can get or a work around?  I would hate ...
Photoshop Elements: Slow open, slow quit06 Oct 2007 22:59 GMT7
Photoshop Elements 3 seems slow to open on my MacBook Tiger -- which
I can live with -- but also very slow to quit, especially if it's been
open for some time and/or I've opened, edited, and closed a bunch of
images.  And from other evidence, I have the impression that it stores
