Is there any way to force Courier 10pt to smooth?11 Sep 2007 02:28 GMT30
Speaking of "last straws"...
It drives me nuts that Courier (or Courier New) 10pt doesn't use the
same smoothing as Courier 11pt!  Is there a way to fix this?  Before
anyone suggests it, I've set System Preferences > Appearance > Turn off

type of plug and adapter would I need for England?  They don't follow a
lot of the continental conventions.
Thanks
Firefox windows problems10 Sep 2007 17:06 GMT4
Over the past few days I've been having trouble with Firefox.
Seemingly randomly (although of course it's possible that I'm
accidentally hitting a keyboard shortcut for it), Firefox's window
will either be stuck at the back or at the front - that is, it will
OS 9 on an Intel Mac?10 Sep 2007 16:07 GMT47
I didn't take note, but sometime ago I saw a message somewhere implying
that it is possible to install functioning OS 9 on an Intel Mac. Can
anyone point me to more information on this topic? Is it worth
discussing here, if you consider OS 9 an app on an Intel Mac?
Batch rename10 Sep 2007 13:06 GMT12
I have a folder with a bunch of jpg photos of my students.  I have a
text file with the student names, one per line.  I'd like to rename all
the files with the corresponding names (and append .jpg to the end of
the name but that's easy).  Graphic Converter doesn't seem to have a ...

I tried installing Windows XP using Boot Camp 1.4 (the latest) on  my
MacBook (120 GB HD and 2 GB of Ram), and got the following dialog

"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.

For a while now I have been plagued by strange finder crashes in OS
10.4.10; I suddenly get the red ball for no apparent reason, and I am
unable to relaunch the finder (Force Quit has no effect). I can still
run  other apps (as I'm doing now in Thoth with the red ball spinning

What, exactly, is Apple's iPod business model?08 Sep 2007 23:51 GMT613
It's a fairly open secret (cf. the wikipedia article re iPod) that
these things:

Birthday w/o year in Address Book08 Sep 2007 18:08 GMT2
I would like to enter some birthday's in Address Book, but I don't know
(and don't want to ask) the year of birth.  When I enter a date without
a year, Addrees Book adds the current year.  Even if I delete the year,
AB puts it back.
