Best word processor for Mac?14 Sep 2007 00:16 GMT49
Hi,  I'm tired of using Word!  Looking for some opinions on the best
alternative.  I need to be able to use bibliographic management
software (currently Endnote), and share files with Windows users.
I've looked at Mellel and Pages, but neither seems quite right.  Any
Screen resolutions from CLI13 Sep 2007 19:23 GMT3
Anyone know how to get at the screen resolutions from the Terminal? I
should know this, but I don't, and Google didn't help much.
Sometimes my big CRT won't kick in when the G4 wakes up, I just need to
reset the resolution to something the old video card and the monitor

Looking for good syncing/incremental backup app13 Sep 2007 09:58 GMT21
I am in the process of going back from Windows to the Mac after many
years, and I will bring lots of data with me. :) This means I need a
good backup concept from the start. I also am interested in a quick
recovery solution in case of harddisk failure.
speeding up a movie13 Sep 2007 09:17 GMT4
I recorded a Quicktime movie, and I would like to make
a version of it that plays back about 4 times faster.
(Yes, with the people all running around speeded up.)
How can I do this?
Revision control in Pages 3.013 Sep 2007 03:35 GMT1
I'm sort of new to using word processors and so don't know how to do
basic things.  I'm interested in maintaining a certain kind of revision
control in a Pages 3.0 document.
When working with plain text, I would do this with RCS.  I could make a
Pineapple News reader - free12 Sep 2007 12:06 GMT2
I was lookikng for a usenet client after switching to macos from win and came
across Pineapple news which I remember from my BeOS days. It has recently been
updated and runs well on my MBPro C2D 2.2. The best thing is that it's free.
The worst thing is that it's an off-line reader ...
iLife '08 iPhoto Archives12 Sep 2007 06:16 GMT6
OK, I've just upgraded to iLife '08 and it has converted my existing
iPhoto archive from individual pictures into some sort of lump file in
which pictures can't be accessed individually.  I know copies can be
made dragging thumbnails to the desktop so I wouldn't care so much
Mail.app: rebuilding mailbox highlights random messages11 Sep 2007 20:28 GMT1
When I select one of my (POP) mail inboxes and choose "Rebuild" from the
"Mailbox" menu, a number of messages will become highlighted with a red
background (whereas previously they had no highlighting at all). The
background highlight color does not match any of my (four) rules, ...

Opera on winxp failed to start because libcurl.dll was not found11 Sep 2007 16:46 GMT2
I don't see this error related to Opera freeware on XP so may I ask what
the solution to this message might be.
I've repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled the freeware Opera web browser,
which works, albeit very slowly, and always with the startup error:

The Computer War - Mac vs. PC11 Sep 2007 03:57 GMT3
I remember my very fist computer. I was twelve years old. The computer
was a Wang 386 PC. I was amazed at the fact that you could put a cd in
it and view pictures and information. Back then you put the CD-ROMs in
a square holder, and inserted that into the computer.
