Temperature control for MacBook?24 Aug 2007 00:44 GMT8
Warmish weather here (upper 70s -- that's warm for us).  Fan on MacBook
with Tiger runs much more often than previous iBook with Panther.
MacBook is sitting on thick wooden desktop.  If I pick it up, it feels
quite warm on the bottom.  My engineering instincts say it should run
Header spanning columns in Pages23 Aug 2007 23:22 GMT3
I'm using Pages (2.0.2) and am trying to get a header to span two
columns.  This strikes me as the kind of thing that should be easy, so I
suppose that I'm missing something obvious.
Would somebody kindly point out the obvious to me?
Moving to iPhoto 6 from earlier versions23 Aug 2007 23:20 GMT8
iPhoto 6 rebuilds your library if you had previously been using iPhoto
5.  I didn't realize what this meant until it was too late.
I count on the yyyy/mm/dd format iPhoto used prior to 6.  When the
library is converted to 6, all your images get moved to originals and
GPG in crontab causes blank messages23 Aug 2007 22:37 GMT3
I'm having a strange issue involving my crontab that's totally got me
stumped.  When I run my crontab command manually in terminal, it works
fine; but when it actually runs on its own, it seems to fail.
Background: I use a couple of shell scripts to back up my Macs
iCal issues23 Aug 2007 18:19 GMT2
Ok, I've brought this up before but I'm still having problems with iCal
losing old entries.  I don't understand because my Mac shows no problems
anywhere else.
I log my bicycle rides to keep track of how many hours I'm riding a
iTunes sort silliness23 Aug 2007 17:44 GMT2
Somewhere along the upgrade path the default sort order for numerals
changed in iTunes.  Before if I sorted by Artist the bands with names
that start with numbers like "100 Flowers" used to show up at the
beginning, now they're at the end.  However, in my playlists "100
Safari display of PDFs23 Aug 2007 15:08 GMT5
Safari 2.0.4 always used to display PDF files automatically. After a recent
update, though, I think to 10.4.10, it now asks me to locate a an Adobe Acrobat
or Adobe Reader application to use, when I first click on a link to a PDF in
that session. So I show it again where Adobe ...
iTunes, YoutTube, AppleTV Question23 Aug 2007 05:57 GMT7
I do not have AppleTV (yet) and, despite some reading, I'm not very
clear on the whole YouTube - Apple TV thing.  Is it just select content
or all of YouTube as the promos would seem to indicate?  And, if the
latter is true, then why isn't all of YouTube available over iTunes?  ...
DVD Player pixellation22 Aug 2007 20:08 GMT2
I am using OS 10.4 on the most recent Powerbook G4, with an external
screen.
I am finding that all the DVDs I play through DVD Player (4.6.5)have a
small amount of pixellation. Just a few small square blocks from time to
Codesigning tool for Mac OS X22 Aug 2007 19:28 GMT8
What application shell I use for signing/verifying Mac OS X binaries
against the certificate? Covering not-prebound binaries would be just
enough.
In Mac OS 9 there were two nice tools for this purpose: "Apple
Where to get help with BGII - ToB?22 Aug 2007 18:15 GMT1
There doesn't appear to be a newsgroup dedicated to the Baldur's Gate
games, unless I just couldn't locate it. I'm currently playing BGII with
the ToB expansion installed, but still playing Shadows of Amn. I'm
unable to defeat one of the monster encounters, and would appreciate
File modification and opening dates22 Aug 2007 12:52 GMT15
Under what circumstances would a file last opened date date be
well prior to a modified date? Just a wee puzzled by what I am
seeing.
File format for Screen Captures?22 Aug 2007 11:51 GMT6
If I'm remembering correctly, screen captures using Cmd-shift-4 in
10.3.9 created PDF files.  In 10.4, it creates PNG files.  Is there a
way to change this option.
Same question for Grab, which seems to capture TIFF files only.
Looking for free or shareware app to recover deleted files21 Aug 2007 18:36 GMT5
Is there an inexpensive alternative to the FileSalvage and similar
programs that will safely recover deleted files from trash - or, what is
the exact command set that I need to do it from Terminal.  There must be
a way to get these important files back.  Just deleted a whole ...
