Well I've finally placed an order for a new iMac as my old faithfull
7300 is starting to get a bit too twitchy.
To xfer files from both my Windows box and my 7300 to the new (Intel)
Mac when it arrives I bought a Seagate 250gig USB ext HD.

Ok I know this should be easy but I need a script to mount an external
firewire drive. The issue is when I plug in the drive it mounts and I
backup, copy files etc.  I then eject it but later on in the day I want it

Has anyone put iPhoto 08 through it's paces with a large collection of
photos? I have a collection of >10k photos and find iPhoto 06 painfully
slow to use, especially launching. This on a Core Duo 17" MBP. If the
speed issue hasn't improved, then I won't make the upgrade at this

I just purchased a used eMac and need to install new software.  I don't have
the Administrator Password and don't want to format because I want to keep
some of the installed programs.
If I do a restore, will I be able to keep some of the apps, or is there no

The iPhoto demo looks pretty impressive, and I just gave iPhoto 8 a try.
One thing that really bothers me is that iPhoto absorbs all my photos
into an opaque folder.
I know that I can right-click / show file, and see that folder

Any recommendations re a good bittorrent client for an iMac?

I installed X11 on my MacBook Pro. It was working fine a few months ago,
but now it isn't. I can still start X11, but the xhost executable seems
to be missing. (Running "xhost +" bash reports that xhost cannot be
found, and spotlight can't find it.) The only explanation I can ...

I can't get iDisk for Windows to work.
I start it, and fill in the same ID and password I use to log into the
.mac web page.
I wait a bit, and get a message saying "iDisk utility failed to mount

Don't ask how or why. But it is gone. Anyway to just download a new
copy or get Beta 3. Or is it Firefox forever now?

Updated a Macbook Pro and a new iMac today and now iPhoto will not
launch - and causes system to hang - requires hard power reset.
Both MBP and iMac were fully up to date will latest software prior to update

A friend of mine tried to use Character Palette to enter some glyphs into a
Microsoft Word document, but the characters were rejected. I do not run
Microsoft Word on my own system but did some poking and found that while I
could apparently enter any character from the Apple ...

I have a number of images I got from my daughter before she discovered
she needed to set the date in her camera.  They show totally ridiculous
dates and I would like to correct them.  Is there an app to do this?
Somebody told me Graphic Converter could do this, but I haven't ...
