Are there any freeware compression apps that I can use to compress a
.dmg? It's 26GB, and I understand some apps choke on files that large.

To avoid undesired side-effects, I normally open iPhoto images in an
editor directly from the file structure of iPhoto.  The problem is when
I save the photo the thumbnail is not updated.  Is there some way to
force this, either for the individual photo or for the entire library?

I have found an old Imac 3 and i'd like to know how to find a Mac OS to use
