question on turbo tax26 Jan 2007 22:01 GMT11
Is it possible to use the program without the interview? My taxes
are somewhat complicated, but I know exactly what I have to do. I
find that the interview is sort of mindless and prevents me from
understanding the tax code. All I need are linked calculations
SimpleImage.app26 Jan 2007 17:12 GMT6
I like SimpleImage for culling photos.  It will present all the photos
in a folder as a full-screen slide show, and one click will throw a
picture into the trash.
Today I changed to a monitor with a digital input.  The SimpleImage
Newsreader recommendation?26 Jan 2007 15:51 GMT19
I'm about 90% thru my transition from OS 9.2.2 G3 to Tiger Intel.  On
the G3, I use YA-Newswatcher (right now).  Versiontracker  pulls up a
number of free usenet newsreaders (I don't need RSS).
Can this knowledgeable group recommend which works out the best?

Bootcamp Strangeness26 Jan 2007 15:32 GMT3
Since installing Boot Camp, I notice that a restart, either from
Windows or OS X,  always restarts Windows... even if I hold down the
Option Key.  To get back to OS X, I have to do a shut down and manual
restart.  Furthermore, it looks like I can no longer startup from a
MSOffice Upgrade26 Jan 2007 13:14 GMT5
When I acquired my G4 PowerMac, I also purchased MS Office X.  To my chagrin,
Office 2004 was released mere weeks later.
The upgrade path (price) wasn't sufficiently attractive so I haven't upgraded.
I have been waiting for the next release.
Is your Mac really sleeping?26 Jan 2007 05:35 GMT6
I recently noted that my 20" iMac's fan was going very quietly when I
thought the Mac was sleeping. Didn't make sense, so I hooked up a power
meter and found it was drawing about 50 watts in this mode. A bit of
sleuthing turned up the following:
Need help with BBEdit grep search/replace26 Jan 2007 05:29 GMT3
I'm working on creating a POI list of FM stations and had to download a
station info from a website by copying and pasting. There was probably
an easier way, but I didn't find it.
I have a list of several hundred stations, listed by callsign, frequency
removing expired headers in Thunderbird26 Jan 2007 01:51 GMT2
If I click the header of a usenet message several weeks old, the message
window will open and remain blank.  Would that be an expired header?
Netscape checked for expired headers routinely.  Will Thunderbird do this?
With Netscape under Classic, a preference file for a busy ...
Find User Connected to My iTunes25 Jan 2007 21:03 GMT2
I am on a network at work.  Many of us share our iTunes library.  I
want to be able to tell who is listening to my library.  I can't figure
out how to do it through the menu.  That info must be available, no?
I am on a pc.
is it "never press verify permissions" or "never press repair permissions"25 Jan 2007 01:24 GMT8
Good mac-lovers:
Please help me with a question. A wise man once told me one of the
following:
a) "if you use verify permissions" on your hard drive, the whole
OCR Software?25 Jan 2007 00:12 GMT41
I'm going to be writing my Master's thesis this spring, and this is
going to involve a *lot* of working with text from books, papers, etc.
that doesn't come in any kind of electronic form.  It occurred to me
that it might be useful to invest in a scanner and some OCR software

Change Color of Highlighted word in a pdf document24 Jan 2007 20:39 GMT3
When searching in a pdf document for a particular word in preview, is there a
way to change the color of the highlighted word from gray to another more
noticeable color? I find it difficult sometime to see the gray color when the
word is found. Any help would be appreciated.
Setting up a printer24 Jan 2007 19:35 GMT7
I just bought a HP Photosmart D7160 printer. This printer is compatable with
the iMac.
I have installed the software and the USB cable is connected and the printer
is turned on.
