Composer replacement for MacBook17 Oct 2006 00:36 GMT1
I can't seem to figure out to use iWeb to redo webpages that I already
have in place that aren't going to .mac. I just want something plain
vanilla like Netscape's Composer for instance, that I can use edit and
updated my webpages. Suggestions?
Irritations with new macbook16 Oct 2006 22:13 GMT12
Two irritations with new 13" macbook 2Ghz running 10.4.8:
1. battery icon permanently shows no battery attached, but the battery
is fully charged (5 greens) and the computer keeps running when the AC
power is disconnected. I wouldn't worry about it but it won't start on
Restoring "missing" fonts to Tiger 10.4.8 for Photoshop16 Oct 2006 17:24 GMT17
I've been having some problems lately with Photoshop files reporting
all of a sudden that certain fonts are not installed. I don't know why
or how, but when I look in the Fonts folder for these, they're not
there anymore. I'm hoping to do a "reinstall" by looking around on a

that will allow me to transfer the songs on my (first generation) ipod
to my new pc.  They were all on my laptop which got broken and are thus
irretrivable. I have tried one called "longfingers but can't seem to
Best IMAP Provider?  Or how do you share email between 2 computers?16 Oct 2006 08:48 GMT10
I've seen other posts about the best email program or best POP email
program, my query is on a different angle ---
I'm using Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 on both the MacBook (OS X 10.4.8) and the
Dell desktop (XP SP2) and am looking for the best IMAP provider.  Or
Determining the type of image contained in a PDF file?16 Oct 2006 02:13 GMT8
My original query got hijacked by a stupid flame war.
I have a one-page PDF that I know contains a single image, plus maybe
some text.
Suppose I open this PDF file in a pure text editor (BBEdit or the like).
Software for scanning documents15 Oct 2006 23:33 GMT4
I need to scan some manuals, to produce pdf files. (I don't need
OCR, just ordinary scans.)
The software from HP that came with my scanner is mind-bogglingly
bad. As far as I can tell, it will only display the preview of

Font Book vs. "Those Professional Font Managers"15 Oct 2006 17:01 GMT12
Here's an example of something that is trivial to do in Apple's Font Book and
I'm curious as to how easily the same thing is accomplished in one of the
"professional" font managers such as Font Explorer or Suitcase Fusion.
When Adobe's Creative Suite 2 is installed a folder is ...
iTunes loads library, checks gapless every time; normal?15 Oct 2006 07:32 GMT4
Every time I open iTunes 7, it seems to re-load the library, which
takes about half a minute or more, and does a gapless check, which
takes several seconds. Is it normal for this to happen every time? Did
not happen in previous versions. Thx. Ed
Problem with deleting aplication.15 Oct 2006 05:59 GMT7
I use iMac G4, 10.3.9.
I installed a trial version of "DVD2oneX2". It installs as a bundle. It
allows you to use basic functions for 30 days.
I was not that happy with it (in my opinion "ffmpegX" does better job)
Mozilla goes to unwanted search page15 Oct 2006 04:21 GMT1
I have my Mozilla 1.3.1 preferences set so that I don't have to type the
http://www. or the .com in a URL. Until last week this worked. Now though, when
I type in a Web address without them, I'm taken to a search page using what I
typed as a search term. That is, if I just type ...
