setting application associations with file types in Mac OS X?10 Aug 2006 22:01 GMT2
I've installed NeoOffice on my brand new MacBook, and I'd like it to be
the default application (instead of the trial version of MS Office) for
opening .doc files.  I'm able to change the association on a
file-by-file basis, but I can't figure out how to change the

Has anyone succeeded in compiling DSTool, the Dynamical Systems Toolkit
from Cornell University, for their Mac?  My compilation dies midway
through.

Weird mail.app behavior10 Aug 2006 04:39 GMT1
All of a sudden, messages I have put in others of my mailboxes
(sometimes weeks ago) are starting to show up, one at a time, in my
"Junk" mailbox. I am absolutely certain I'm not moving them there, and
I've never written a script that does anything remotely like that.

Hi. I've been getting blank map pages when searching google maps for an
address in firefox. the map area says "loading". but remains gray. the
problem is sporadic - sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't,
but I can't isolate why. I often get this error as well, when trying to
MT-Newswatcher & Spelling09 Aug 2006 22:28 GMT2
When MT-Newswatcher detects spellingserror then there is a red line
below the erronous word.
However when I click right I see no correct or alternative spellings. I
do get to see those when I use (e.g.) Text Editor.
Integrating data folders from an external drive.09 Aug 2006 18:42 GMT6
I'm getting an external drive, and it's going to be used among other
things to store music, pics, etc.
Since the iTunes, iPhoto, etc default to checking the local drive, how
can I seamlessly add another folder?  Perhaps storing most of my huge
Safari and Firefox print blank Google maps09 Aug 2006 16:25 GMT5
Starting about a week ago, both Safari and Firefox show the maps I
generate at Google Maps on my screen, but fail to print the maps -- all
the other stuff is there, just no map! This is true both printing to a
printer and to PDF. Yahoo maps still works fine. I suspect that the
some podcasts appear in iTunes but not on iPod09 Aug 2006 01:55 GMT1
Running MacOS X 10.4.7 ...
I have noticed that some of my Podcasts appear in iTunes, but not on
my iPod mini when I do a sync.  These are audio Podcasts, and not A/V
Podcasts.
Recording on a Mac Powerbook? HELP!08 Aug 2006 21:04 GMT13
I bought a Mac Powerbook just after Katrina took my PC. Love it, except
I can't find an easy way to record my guitar. Using PC was easy.
Guitar>amp Line out>soundcard. The Powerbook doesn't seem so simple. It
does *not* have a mini jack input, so my choices seem to be Firewire,

Ooooeee! The menu has gone!08 Aug 2006 04:09 GMT2
Just noticed that in MT-Newswatcher, the menu items at the top
have gone, there is just a white background! Clicking on finder
or another app brings it back, but not on this newsreader. I am
sure I have never seen this before... Hell's bells!
