Portable hard drive26 Jun 2006 21:20 GMT11
I have a 60 GB portable USB hard drive.  It mounts fine on my desktop
computer (a PowerPC G5 1.8 Ghz Dual) and on every Windows XP computer
that I've tried, but it won't mount on my PowerBook G4 laptop.  Both
computers are running the same version of the operating system.  I've

Streaming Video across the IT26 Jun 2006 16:25 GMT76
IF my high school physics are correct, it is impossible to stream high
quality video across the internet. The internet uses intermitent
packets to send data. Over but short distances e.g. local networks, the
packet takes 0.8 second to reach the receiver vta sattelite. ON receipt
Thank you all for your answers26 Jun 2006 14:44 GMT25
I appreciate the feedback I've been getting here, but perhaps you Richard
and many others do not understand, that I am by no means a professional in
this field. I have had a love for video, but my love is just a pleasure.

encryption, OS 926 Jun 2006 06:31 GMT4
Hi, I'm working in OS 9. I know how to encrypt a file, but when I
open it, I decrypt it, obviously, and it will not remain
unencrypted after I close it. Apparently I have to go through the
whole encryption process again to maintain it as an encrypted

Okay to set Classic to run from another drive?26 Jun 2006 00:22 GMT2
I installed O.S. 10.46 onto an external disk.
When I tried to open Photoshop 5.5 with the O.S. 10.46 as the start
drive,, a message said, "Classic is starting. Classic needs to update
files in 'System Folder' on 'Data ' " (which is the name of my internal
Mail hiding mail - I am confused.25 Jun 2006 22:44 GMT5
I am switching (maybe?) to Apple's Mail program. I like that Spotlight
seems to have indexed some stuff I tried out there long ago having
imported it from Eudora as a test. And Mail's searching is pretty fast, too.
But...
Thunderbird newsgroup counters25 Jun 2006 20:24 GMT3
The last couple of weeks I have had one newsgroup show a lot more new
messages then there are.  When you click on it to read the group, only
the new one show, but when you bring new mail up it again goes to the
large count.  Anyone have any idea in how to clear that?  I have ...
program to delete unused printer drivers and localization files25 Jun 2006 18:57 GMT17
I can't remember the name of the utility which will save space on your
hard drive by deleting things like unused printer drivers, non-english
localization files, etc. Do utilities like that cause problems when you
upgrade because the Apple updates can't find the files that they ...
Windows on the new Macs25 Jun 2006 17:28 GMT54
I have a copy of VirtualPC with W2000 on it.  Is there any way to
extract this into an Intel Mac running Bootcamp or Parallel?
The second CD is labeled W2000 and has an i386 directory, but there's no
obvious way to install it.

?Safari--RealPlayer as helper app?25 Jun 2006 15:27 GMT3
How does one assign helper apps in Safari if the app doesn't have an
internet plugin? I want RealPlayer to launch automatically and play .ram
links, but couldn't find a plugin on the RealPlayer site. Presumeably
this must be easy; any help will be appreciated.
free ascii text editor for 10.2.8?25 Jun 2006 06:46 GMT20
Does anyone have a suggestion for a free GUI-based text editor that will
work with 10.2.8? I'm not interested in VI, Emacs, etc. How come
TextEdit can't save ascii?
Thanks.
