Thoth Rising! Another reply from Brian... keep the ball rolling, people06 Jun 2006 15:36 GMT190
I wrote a nice note to BC and received an equally nice, and both
thoughtful and thought-provoking reply in turn.
As someone else here has suggested, I urged BC to put some sort of
'time limit' on Thoth... an annual subscription for $25 bucks or so.
New group for Macintosh abandonware06 Jun 2006 09:13 GMT11
I have started a new group especially for the discussion about old
Macintosh software, known as abandonware.
If you want to know where to get old software for your 68k or PPC Mac
running lower than Mac OS 8, then this new group is the best place to
need some help with my scanner program settings06 Jun 2006 02:35 GMT4
I just bought a used Canon D660U flatbed scanner, I believe it's a 42-bit
model with 600 x 1200 dpi, and to make a long story short I started using
the VueScan program because my Photoshop is so old (3.0.5) that it won't
recognize Canon's D660U plug-in (and the Photoshop-wannabe ...
Web site maintenance06 Jun 2006 02:07 GMT12
I don't know if this is the right place to ask.
I'm considering volunteering to improve and maintain a church's website.
The current site sucks.
How tough is it to learn to do this?  General question, I know.
photoshop launches on system startup06 Jun 2006 01:20 GMT2
SInce upgrading to Creative Suite my older photoshop 7 now launches
when Mac system starts up. Whats up with that?! How can I get it to
stop?
Lightscribe Labeling and Other CD and DVD Questions06 Jun 2006 01:18 GMT38
With my LaCie DVD +-RW 16x4x16x Double Layer Firewire Drive connected
to my Mac G4 and eventual goal of making a bunch of CDs and DVDs, my
questions now are:
1.  Can I have someone else burn a CD on a Lightscribe-enabled disk,
Postgresql initdb shared memory woes05 Jun 2006 21:37 GMT3
I'm new to the group and just got my macbook, but I've been a BSD/Linux
user for years.
I'm having issues with Postgresql 8.x initdb.  I've tried building from
source both with and without fink.
Yahoo Messenger05 Jun 2006 20:41 GMT6
I am under the impression from their web site that Yahoo Messenger
2.5.3 is able to transmit voice on chats.  But I'll be darned if I can
find that feature in any menu.  Am I hallucinating?  Can YM do voice?
(I am able to receive/send cam with it.)  Any clues?
[9.2.2] Windows Media Player 7 - audio only?05 Jun 2006 17:18 GMT3
Sometimes I open a .wmv file in WMP 7, and get audio only,
even when there's supposed to be video as well. QuickTime
Player can't open this type of file...at least not on my system.
Mozilla won't let me drop the file onto a window and play it.
LimeWire slowness solution!05 Jun 2006 16:32 GMT3
I've experienced huge system slowdowns due to LimeWire and noticed a
lot of other people posting about that, too.  I've found a solution
that works for me and LimeWire now runs smoothly and allows me to
quickly task switch and use my computer like normal once again.
Safari Displays Strange Characters05 Jun 2006 16:10 GMT3
I have a Quad PowerMac with updated Tiger OS and apps. For some reason,
Safari displays text characters as numerical fractions.
In Preferences, Appearance is set to Times 16 and Courier 13. Default
Encoding is Western. The Character Palette in the Edit | Special Characters
Locking a MS Word Document - how ??05 Jun 2006 06:57 GMT3
I want individual MS Word documents locked via a password.  How is this
done?

Dropping or moving things onto the Tiger Desktop05 Jun 2006 02:06 GMT8
Maybe my screen setup, I run two monitors (not mirrored) from 2
different video cards, details later if these are needed, but
when I drop anything onto the "non-primary" screen, the one that
has no menu, it does not stay where I put it but does the magic
New PB wake-up problem05 Jun 2006 00:05 GMT1
Well, my wife's Powerbook G4 (but not mine) has started showing a new
wake-up problem:  Sometimes when she opens its lid, we hear the usual
disk noises, and the screen lights up, and when she uses the trackpad,
the pointer moves around.  But neither the trackpad's button nor any
noise-reduction software for sound recordings04 Jun 2006 21:50 GMT11
Can anyone suggest noise reduciton software to strip hiss and clicks
out of old vinyl recordings that I'm transferring to CD? Do they work?
I use Sound Studio for the recording, and can't seem to do much to get
rid of this hiss with that.
