My iPhoto library is more than 10GB big and eats up too much space on my
laptop. How can I safely transfer it to my external hard drive? I would
like to get it out of the way and create a new, empty library, but also
be able to switch back and forth between the old and new ...

I just switched to OS X.  I downloaded Thunderbird because it was based
on Mozilla.  I like it better than anything I've tried in Classic.
How does Mail compare to Thunderbird?

I have a built-in Combo drive (only reads DVDs) and a USB 2.0 DVD burner.
Is there a way I can insert a DVD into the Combo drive, a DVD-R into the
USB burner, and copy one to the other, without having to create a disc
image on my HD first?  I'm talking about a homemade iMovie/iDVD ...

If i connect to a windows network through ethernet, and can access the
internet through it, what else can i do on the network? And is this a
major security risk? I'm sorry if the last question is a dumb one.

My iPhoto library has mysteriously emptied itself. The photos are still
in my system (I can find them if I think of the file name of some of
them) but are no longer in iPhoto. Does anyone know of an easy way of
restoring them? Part of the problem is that I don't remember the names

I once had an application that listed all macintoshes and the optimum
operating system for each of them.
Forget the name of the app but bet it is still around.
Can any of you help me here?

Is there a way to make shell-script files (meaning Unix shells:  sh,
csh, ksh, etc.) executable by double-clicking that file's icon, by
putting it in the dock or desktop, and so forth?

In my Mac Mini, ClarisWorks5 is a means of opening files from old
applications.  Yesterday I was able to save some of the files I opened
so that Appleworks could open them under OS X.  Today, when I try to
save anything with ClarisWorks5, I get error 48.

Page up and page down keys  do not work on my Apple extended keyboard
like they do in Safari or Netscape.  The home and end keys are
repsonsive as well has the scroll wheel.  Any suggestions?

Once photos are imported into iPhoto (version 6) can the originals be
safely deleted?

I have a spinning beach ball whenever I go to the menu bar. I can't
access anything up there. I have repaired permissions, run the hardware
test (no problems) and run Disk Repair from the installation CD. It is

mail.app is more like a sieve than it used to be, with identical spam
messages coming through over and over. I've searched for additional
spam filters to try to overlay on mail, but I'm not convinced I'll get
anything other than another layer of complexity without doing any good.

My New York Times homepage has not been loading properly with Safari
for several days. The left half is OK but the right isn't there. It
loads just fine with Firefox. Any ideas?

I am downloading 10.4.6 at the moment, was wondering if this gave
anyone any trouble or should I just install it.

I had gotten rather careless with saving files, since it was so easy to
locate them with the Fnder. However, now that I    am running OSX and
Tiger, on a new computer, I find the finder to be quirky and the help
instructions useless.
