I'm trying to burn a few avi movies to DVD using iMovie/iDVD on OSX. However, each one-hour movie is about 350 mb. When I import them into iMovie, can only fit 2 movies per DVD. Is there anything I can use to reduce the size of the avis, or something

If I buy TV shows (or any kind of videos) via the iTunes store, then download them to my iPod, how can I get them back OFF the iPod (in case my hard drive gets hosed)?
