Hogwasher, MT-NW and a calamitous binary post12 Feb 2006 22:33 GMT4
Recently tried posting some binaries, first with Hogwasher, which gave up
after about a dozen parts. So I tried again with MT-Newswatcher, which put
the files up ok, but mangled the longer subject/file names. These weren't
particularly huge files, about 5-10MB, and split into ...
Apple MAIL. How to edit addresses12 Feb 2006 14:59 GMT3
Using Apple Mail in 10.4.4.  When I type in the FROM: field, the app
attempts to autocomplete. How do I edit what it uses, for it's trying
to use an outdated address (NOT in Address Book). Where is this data
kept, and can I edit it? With BBEdit, or similar? Or do I need a Plist
What happened to Faxing for the Mac?12 Feb 2006 05:52 GMT52
The Mac used to have Global Village Fax Center which was a very powerful fax
suite for OS 7. If you have used this, you will be screaming and yelling at
the built in Tiger faxing abilities.

DVD Player Problem12 Feb 2006 01:55 GMT2
Okay, this might be a problem with my recorder, but I am seeing it on my
PowerBook.  If I record a DVD in 16:9 it plays fine on my TV but gets
squeezed to 4:3 on my Mac.  OTOH, a "Widescreen" commercial DVD plays
fine.  Any ideas why?

iTunes: is there a way to list songs in my library not on iPod?11 Feb 2006 22:14 GMT2
I was wondering if there is a way to see what songs in my iTunes
library are NOT on my iPod?  Then I could view this list, see what
songs I like, and move those onto my iPod.
Thanks for your help.
Graphic converter free replacement?11 Feb 2006 20:48 GMT13
I teach computer literacy and need an easy to use free program for
students to crop photos and convert them to jpg and gif.  In windows I
use Irfanview.  On my powerbook, I use Graphic Converter, but I have a
couple of students who have iBooks which apparently don't have GC.  ...
NeoOffice Calc Selection list11 Feb 2006 18:03 GMT1
I imported an Excel spreadsheet that had drop-down selection lists that
triggered Vlookup.
NeoO Calc has a (right click) menu item on a cell for "selection list"
but no documentation as to how to set the range of cells in the
Project file sizes in iMovie11 Feb 2006 14:50 GMT4
Why oes 1 half hour project takes up ~4 GB of space on my hard drive?
and applying effects takes another 4?
Isn this a bit excessive?  Do I have a setting wrong, or something?
What apps do I need to produce Apple-style help videos?11 Feb 2006 14:35 GMT2
I want to do something similar to this:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/theater/spotlight.html
to show my customers how to deal with .dmg files. Frankly, the dmg
handling in OS X is extremely non-intuitive to new computer users and
new macbooks: faster HD useful for what?11 Feb 2006 14:22 GMT11
I am considering buying a new macbook, and am bothered with that option
of choosing a "faster" hard disk.
In the past I used to "double the RAM by default" and this I found
helpful, but here there seems to be plenty of RAM already... (is this
LUSH under Tiger10 Feb 2006 19:51 GMT5
Has anyone successfully compiled LUSH (lush.sourceforge.net)
under Tiger? LUSH is a LISP based system for numerical computation
which I would like to explore, but I'm having no luck. The Web
site claims it runs under Os X.
searches in TextEdit10 Feb 2006 17:12 GMT2
I have OSX10.4 for my G4 iMac, and I was trying to find and
clear out some carriage returns in a text file.  That was
easy to do in my old OS9.2 version of TexEdit (not the same
program), because in the Find-Replace command you can
