Q: extracting small clip from a .avi file31 Jan 2006 22:18 GMT1
I'd like to extract two sections less than 1:00 minute long apiece from
a .avi film I downloaded from the internet to use as an example in a
lecture without having to mess about with finding the right spots. (I'll
do that if I absolutely have to.) I do not know what codec the ...
Lauching hidden files31 Jan 2006 20:56 GMT9
How does one launch an application from a hidden file?
I know that the application is there because I can find it with the
"Find" help, but I can't get my computer to launch it.  I get a message
about being unable to open the file because it is in a hidden folder,
MT-Newswatcher isn't filtering crossposted messages31 Jan 2006 16:46 GMT6
It seemed to work fine before, then I tried a couple of other
newsreaders, now I'm back.  I'm pretty sure that I marked each group
read and as I did that successive group numbers decreased to indicate
its is filtering messages that I already read.  Now when I do that, the
Thunderbird - Default Mail Program31 Jan 2006 14:40 GMT17
I'm using Tiger on a Mac - Netscape 7.2 and Netscape Mail.
I just installed Thunderbird & "imported" all my necessary folders but I
can't figure out how to make Thunderbird my default e-mail, newsgroup
program. When I startup Netscape, Netscape mail opens !
What changes does Preview make to photos?31 Jan 2006 11:16 GMT5
I would like to add keywords to photos, independent of iPhoto, so
Spotlight could find them.  I noticed that Preview allows you to do so
in the Get Info panel.  However on a test photo, the size was reduced
from 840 kByte to 744 kByte.  Dimensions were still listed as the same,
Getting Audible Files (legitimate) from iTunes to iPod?!31 Jan 2006 06:57 GMT8
I've updated, upgraded, and read everything I could find about iTunes
regarding getting my ".aa" files from Audible Manager into my iPod
shuffle: I can get the downloaded files into the 'Library' section of
iTunes - but that's as far as I get...  I cannot Autofill, drag, or
How do I burn an AUDIO_TS and AUDIO_TS from a (2) disc set to (2) discs in Toast, and not a single Disc with large compression? TY.31 Jan 2006 06:35 GMT1
I'm new to burning DVDs and am currently using Toast 7.0.2 without a dual
layer drive.  I have a main folder which contains the (2) folders AUDIO_TS
and the VIDEO_TS and wish to burn them to (2) discs to avoid the substantial
compression (option) of burning it to a single disc as ...

Seems awhile ago there was a way to import only a certain portion of a
song into iTunes...
I upgraded to 6.02, and i can't seem to find it anymore...
Am I missing something???
Adding Memory to MT-NW in X.431 Jan 2006 01:36 GMT7
Once in a while, when I'm manually extracting binaries (because parts
are missing and I want the par files to fix them), I'll get a message
that NW is short of memory and I should add more.
But from what Robin Williams tells me in her book, the Mac does this
Python--latest31 Jan 2006 00:08 GMT3
What are folks doing for the latest version of python?  Yes, I know I
can use Darwin Ports or Fink but I'd rather have a "native" or direct
replacement for the one Apple supplied us with.
Is readline still broken in 10.4.4?  Do you need separate fixes for that
iPhoto Headaches30 Jan 2006 22:22 GMT2
Ok so I found photos in my iPhoto Library folder (accessed from the
Finder, not the one from within iPhoto--see, it's already confusing!)
that I had long ago "deleted" and trash-emptied from within iPhoto.  So
today I delete some photos from within iPhoto (my Last 12 months
Brian Clark's Rosetta30 Jan 2006 20:22 GMT1
In switching to a new computer, I found I couldn't transfer over my old
copy of Brian Clark's Rosetta (which I paid for in the past). Checking
around, I found that I never put away a stuffed copy, it is no longer
available for download, and is not supported anymore by the author. ...
Key chain failure??30 Jan 2006 19:12 GMT4
My wife's iBook suddenly doesn't recognize her password when she
attempts to download an Apple software update.  This hasn't  happened
before.  (caps lock is not the culprit.)
I repaired permissions and restarted; no luck.
Best PHOTOGRAPHY application?30 Jan 2006 18:00 GMT11
What is the BEST/EASIEST Macintosh/Apple application for storing,
filing, editing, etc. 10,000 digital photos?
I need a program for Mac that will easily arrange my photos and let me
easily edit them, and save the edited files in a non-degraded format,
