iTunes restore12 Dec 2005 11:13 GMT3
My 200g Maxtor HD just karked it!
I stored my iTunes folder on it, consequently my 4000 or so tracks have
gone. I have my playlists on my iPod, so my obvious question is, can I
restore to a new HD from my iPod?

Apple Mail: Rules, mailing lists, and From account11 Dec 2005 17:18 GMT6
I'm using Apple Mail 2.0.5 in OS X 10.4.3.    I subscribe to multiple
mailing lists using a different account than my main email account (to
reduce spam and allow me to check my mail faster on the road).
I also use rules to move mail messages to folder On My Mac.
My Default Account in OS X Mail10 Dec 2005 16:55 GMT10
This seems to be a common problem, but the 'remedies' I find for it do not work.
In OS X mail (my version is 1.3.11)  compose always picks an account I do
not want to use in most cases.   The remedies all say to go to Mail
Preferences and change the order in which the accounts are ...
Atom and/or RSS? What's your Choice?10 Dec 2005 08:12 GMT1
This is not a Mac-specific question, but I'd like to ask this question.
Surfing the net, I see lots of feeds provided on websites, and somtimes
encounter both RSS feeds and Atom feeds. As far as I know, most
aggregators (and browsers) can handle both. In my experience, there's
set global PATH variable?09 Dec 2005 16:57 GMT3
Where do I set the global PATH variable?
My path does not contain /sw/bin, and so my Carbon Emacs cannot start a
certain /sw/bin/... application inside emacs.
I tried ~/.bashrc, but it of course does not affect the variable content
start preview app from command line?09 Dec 2005 13:42 GMT5
Sorry, this is a newbie question ...
How do I start the preview app, with a certain pdf as argument, from the
command line?
I have Mac OS 10.4.
Safari for RSS vs. others such as NewsMac and NetNewsWire09 Dec 2005 11:58 GMT8
I go round and round. I've read comments on VersionTracker. What do folks
here have to say about these apps' methods, or other apps? I am a casual user
who occasionally leans towards a heavy several times a day user.
Pathetically, I can't make up my mind. I feel I haven't used ...
Windowshade clones for OSX09 Dec 2005 07:12 GMT16
List 'em if ya heard of 'em.
Don't need bells & whistles; just double-click collapsing.
(It's the principle of the thing: It rankles me to pay anything for an
ability which I'd enjoyed for free for ten *years* until now, and which
Apple External USB Modem09 Dec 2005 03:06 GMT4
I ordered one for our G4 iMac. When it arrived, the specs called for
both G4 and OS X 10.4.3. No Tiger 4.3, no workee!

Toast won't write DVD+RW09 Dec 2005 01:00 GMT5
I can't get Toast 7 to complete a DVD+RW. It hangs at the end, and the
resulting disk is corrupt (it mounts, all the files are there, you can
descend into directories, but the files won't open).
The Toast web site says "try using a different colour of DVD+RW" which
iMac wants password for nearly everything08 Dec 2005 22:27 GMT16
A friend of mine with a G5 iMac running Panther has recently run into
problems with permissions.  Her computer has suddenly required that she
type in her password to put pretty much anything in the trash.  I fixed
the permissions with DU which didn't help.  She is the only account ...
Help!  Mail.app always crashes on opening 08 Dec 2005 22:24 GMT3
I have a friend with an eMac running 10.3.4.  Whenever he opens mail it
tries to index and then crashes in a few seconds.  I opened a dummy
account, and mail was stabile.  If I open mail and switch the mail box
immediately to say, the Out box which is empty, it will not crash until
Best Burning Software For The Mac?08 Dec 2005 21:37 GMT15
I'm a recent convert to Mac's and wandered what you guys consider to
be the best burning program for a variety of different cd's and
dvd's. I got pretty used to using Nero, so anything with the same
amount of features / options would be great, just hoping someone on
