Upgrading to System 10.414 Dec 2005 16:09 GMT324
I was told by a salesman at an Apple store that System 10.4 comes with
System 9.22, and that 10.4 allows the user to start the computer in
System 9.22 mode. Is that claim correct? I checked the Apple Web site's
description of System 10.4. I don't see any information there about
Creating .mov files14 Dec 2005 14:08 GMT1
I want to use Darwin for streaming from my PVR. I understand that
Darwin streams .mov files, but my pvr generates MPG2 and not .mov
files. Is there a free (possibly open source) way to automate the
generation of .mov files for streaming?

successfully on Windows?
I've tried a number of different settings, and no joy on many Windows

respectable?

Google Earth OS X beta13 Dec 2005 13:15 GMT7
You may already know that a beta for OS X is now available. Not from
google, but easy to find via a search. It's an amazing application. On
my PB g4 1.33 768MB RAM, it can be a little slow, and interferes with
itunes playback for some reason. Otherwise, it seems pretty stable.
Moving iTunes to new replacement hard drive13 Dec 2005 11:42 GMT4
Not sure if this is the right forum for this.. but I'll give it a shot

Is it okay to run Disk Warrior and Tech Tool on drives that lacks a

Is Disk Warrior the first program to use when there's a crash, or should
Tech Tool be run first?

Simple Java compiler12 Dec 2005 23:29 GMT11
I'm learning Java in school.  They expect us to work on Java at home,
and give us a CD with JCreator Pro, but they assume everyone in the
world uses Windows.  JCreator Pro doesn't run on the Mac.  I have Mac
OS X Tiger.  I know it's supposed to have a Java compiler built in, but
GraphicConverter and Photoshop12 Dec 2005 20:27 GMT17
I have a questoin. I'm starting to learn to image processing (making
web graphics, icons and modifying my original photos). I read a lot of
reviews that says having and using both apps are useful. While I
understand Adobe Photoshop is a premier app, I'm not quite sure what
iTunes and folders12 Dec 2005 17:53 GMT3
Hi, just a question about iTunes and folders.
I'm using Tiger and iTunes 6.0 and use iTunes as a kind of jukebox.
Music is stored in 9 folders, each folder has one playlist.
First I cannot find the folders in iTunes, but more important is that
X11 emacs: only dumb terminal version available?12 Dec 2005 16:45 GMT12
In my X11, there seems to be only a dumb terminal version of emacs
installed.  Is there one with a GUI available?  That would just be like
the Carbon emacs, but in X11.
It's kind of funny that in X11, emacs wouldn't be able to be in a
