Now Contact freezes menu bar?22 Dec 2005 14:35 GMT3
This is a report FWIW on a glitch in which some component of Now UDC,
presumably associated with QuickContact, apparently freezes part of the
menu bar.
I upgraded to Now UDC 5.0.4 from an earlier version via a purchased
Simple database, cheaper than Filemaker?22 Dec 2005 13:49 GMT21
I got my sister to switch a couple of months ago.
She needs a simple database to keep track of (1) ebay auctions she does
[item, price, shipping costs, winner's address, whether she's gotten
feedback yet, maybe even email-attachments or texts] and (2) job

Mail problem w/Word files -- very curious22 Dec 2005 05:10 GMT6
Using Mail for OSX, when I send an e-mail with an attached Word (also
for OSX) file that includes a jpeg within it, the e-mail never reaches
its destination. (It does show up in the Sent folder as having gone
out.) I do not have this problem with Word files that don't include

Web materials viewer?21 Dec 2005 22:42 GMT1
I wonder if there's a good solution for storing, viewing or retrieving
images for web development. I have tons of graphic files (e.g., jpg png
gif...) on my local drive. I wish I could find a app that manages these
files *effectively*.
safari: doesn't ask before closing?21 Dec 2005 18:11 GMT1
Hi, I often close tabs with Apple-W, but sometimes I hit Apple-Q by
accident. Then, safari closes without a confirmation dialog! It doesn't
ask: "Do you want to close Safari? Yes/No."  It's annoying. How can I
turn on such a confirmation dialog?

various folders, saving new files or updated versions of
old files.
Is there a way to add applications to Automater?21 Dec 2005 15:00 GMT6
I never learned to use Apple Script.  I thought Automater would be a
good way around this, but some of the applications I want to automate
are not in the library.  Interestingly, some non-Apple apps, like
GraphicConverter are there, but many Apple apps are not.  Help is no
iTunes and its "error correction" compared to EAC?21 Dec 2005 01:45 GMT2
Is there a true comparison? Does any have any information on how they are
alike/different? Anything I can use to fend off EAC snobs?

Best program for joining long audio clips accurately?21 Dec 2005 01:31 GMT6
I have two mp4 sound files that are both recordings of the same
mixtape.  One of them is, say, the first 60% of the mixtape.  The other
one is the last 60%.  The whole mixtape should be about an hour long.
I need to join them in the middle precisely so that the whole mixtape

My wife suddenly wanted to get a solitaire for the new mac, so we

good (though lacking a vegas version).  It piqued my interest though for
Cannot connect to local PC with RDC20 Dec 2005 13:48 GMT1
I am trying to connect to my Windows PC via Remote Desktop Client from
my Mac.  I can connect to the PC and see shared drives and transfer
content back and forth just fine, and I see the Windows XP login when I
use RDC and input the IP address.  However, Windows will not let me log
