mystery error message in Apple "Pages"20 Nov 2005 19:26 GMT12
Recently I noticed (I don't use it much) that Pages will
complain on startup loading a document that it can't find the
Arial font.  This is silly, since I use Arial in various apps
all over the system, including NewOffice/J.  Yet, Pages
Mac compatible mp3 player20 Nov 2005 19:04 GMT8
Okay, here's what I want - flash based mp3 player for the mac. I have
an iPod shuffle, but I'm finding the lack of a screen gets a bit
annoying.
I looked at the iPod Nano, but the 14 hours of battery life along with
rsync, cp, disk image, or tar for backup script on OSX?20 Nov 2005 18:40 GMT14
Had so many problems using rsync or cp to make backups I am about to
give up. Although less efficient I might be better to user AppleScipt
to run Disk Utility to make disk images. Any Suggestions?
I do not like Retrospect because everything is compressed into one file
[Endorsement] iPod Enhancement Software20 Nov 2005 16:32 GMT4
First of all, I know this is a Mac group, but I didn't see any posts
about this software yet, so I figured since it's iPod related, it
might fly...
Anyways, this is about a piece of software I just picked up for
Palm Conduit manager quits20 Nov 2005 16:26 GMT9
I sync DateBook4 on a Palm m100 with Now Up-to-Date and Contact on a Mac
running OS 10.4.3. It's all worked flawlessly for quite a while.
I was having trouble with my Up-to-Date file: it wouldn't print properly, so
I exported the data and imported them into a new calendar file which ...
But, will a Mac play it?19 Nov 2005 19:54 GMT10
My latest attempt to find a way to convert my off-air VHS recordings to
digital form for archiving on DVD media has me close to tossing the
buggy Miglia and going instead to a dedicated box like the Panasonic
combination VCR/DVD recorder/player.  The one I have my eye on is the

I bought a 1,8 Ghz 2nd hand ppc, but now I see some
problems.
They say it is with memory.  How is it possible??
I bought memory to Apple's specs.  Even from an Apple dealer.

Watching DVD movies in System 918 Nov 2005 11:53 GMT5
I have one of our employees who is using a Quicksilver running OS 9.2.2.
The Mac does not have a built-in DVD player, so I attached an external FW DVD
reader/burner. So, now he is able to mount DVDs, but my question is: what
piece of software can we use to view the movies?
Help me with Unison newsreader?18 Nov 2005 11:14 GMT34
I paid $25 for this, and it's vexing me. Often the Get More icon isn't
lit up, even when it turns out there were more postings available.
Often when I do Get More (manually, since the command icon isn't lit up
for me) the program takes forever to download the headers. And often
Bookends 8.1.2 for OS X17 Nov 2005 23:57 GMT3
Is it only me or others too that can not download an OS X version of
this program?  Even in the developer's site, the supposed OS X dmg file
contains only OS 9 version.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Utility to verify data17 Nov 2005 23:47 GMT17
I regularly backup my data onto CDs/DVDs and have been very conscientious
about this for years. Every now and then, I would like to verify the
integrity of my data by diagnosing the status of the media. In the pre OS-X
days, I used various utilities to verify the integrity of ...

In reinstalling iTUnes, I lost many of the songs I had on my computer.
However, they are on my iPod.  Is there a way to sync backwards from
ipod to itunes?  Thanks.
Comments in Bash17 Nov 2005 13:35 GMT13
Is there any way to do multiline comments in Bash, rather than use
# comment on each line
What I would like to do is to incorporate a bunch of HTML into a Bash
script (or if you like, incorporate some Bash script into a web page) in
