Real Player 10 overrrides iTunes in AAC04 Sep 2005 21:41 GMT1
I'm running Tiger on an iMac G5. Although AAC is the preferred format
in iTunes, my Mac assigns it a Real Player 10 icon. Under no
circumstances will AAC files open in iTunes. Furthermore, RP 10 has a
tendency to quit abruptly at the drop of a hat.
How to batch capture with Final Cut Express?????04 Sep 2005 20:02 GMT4
I just started using Final Cut Express and can't find out how to do a
batch capture (when you log clips to be captured at a later time, as
you are going through a tape).  I'm used to doing this in Premiere and
I'd be very surprised if the much touted Final Cut couldn't do this.
iPhoto starts up automatically when CF card reader plugged in - why?04 Sep 2005 16:55 GMT2
I use MacOS 10.3.2 with iPhoto 4.0
When I plug a CF card reader into a USB port with photos from my Canon
digital camera on it iPhoto is called up automatically.
Can I turn off this feature - and if so how?
Dead keys and accents in NEdit under OS X04 Sep 2005 15:48 GMT1
I installed the prebuilt binary of NEdit 5.5 for OS X (the official
binary available at nedit.org), and dead keys don't work. Moreover, if
I open a file which has ISO Latin 1 characters (like accents), they're
not displayed.
Autocad-like?04 Sep 2005 14:32 GMT4
A friend of mine took a look on my PB, and now he wants a mac :) The
only glitch is Autocad. He needs something like that.
Do you know any program as good as autocad and capable of opening
and/or modifying autocad files?
Update on My Weird Safari Saga04 Sep 2005 10:18 GMT3
For those of you who might have noted my earlier posts about my crashes with
Safari which then cause system crashes -- the behavior is back, but I've
isolated the behavior to a single Web site -- usatoday.com.  Using usatoday.com
with FireFox causes no problems, so it is also ...
Adobe CS - needs activation?04 Sep 2005 08:25 GMT21
Anyone out there with experience of installing Adobe CS on the Mac? Does
the software need activation - ie, do you need to have an Internet
connection to register with Adobe to get it to work. The reason I ask is
that I'm going to be picking up a copy while I'm in London and will ...
Program to add long filename to Finder comments?03 Sep 2005 16:50 GMT2
Is there a program that can put a file's OS X filename into the file's
OS 9 Finder comments?  Can AppleScript handle this, either by accessing
the long filename from OS 9, or by setting the OS 9 Finder comments from
OS X?  Kilometre Browser can edit OS 9 comments, but I don't ...
Simple Sound-Trimming Software?02 Sep 2005 18:32 GMT14
What do you youse guys suggest to use for the purpose
of snipping a 50 second segment of band-chatter
from a cut I have as an AIFF file, before burning
it? Something that doesn't require a massive
iMac sw for limiting internet browsing for children02 Sep 2005 18:31 GMT21
I've googled around to find a "Net Nanny" for Mac, but have not really been confident about
what I have found. I would like to connect my son's colorful little iMac to the internet, but
limit him from viewing objectionable sites.
I had hoped to find free SW to load on that iMac, ...
recommend hardware to batch scan documents02 Sep 2005 17:44 GMT2
We need to get rid of 6 four-drawer file cabinets of files.  They are
mostly standard size (8.5x11).  There must be scanners with hoppers you
can drop files into, and software to tell the folder's name and to
"scan until the hopper is empty".
Linksys wireless instructions02 Sep 2005 16:41 GMT2
I've ordered a new iBook (Airport installed), and want to set it up
with my existing Linksys WRT54G (version 2) wireless router. When I set
it up with my G5 iMac a year ago, I didn't bother with a whole lot of
security. Can someone point me to step-by-step instructions for my

QuickTime 7.0.1 Browser Launch02 Sep 2005 11:58 GMT3
I recently upgraded to Quicktime 7.0.1 (on OS 10.3.9) and I'm
disappointed...  It seems watching some movies these days will launch a
browser to advertise a website.  I looked through preferences and don't
see anything to disable launching bookmarks embedded in movies.
Blank DVDs02 Sep 2005 08:40 GMT3
I just bought a iMac g5 with a superdrive, and I'd like to buy some
blank DVD before the computer arrives.  Then I'd be ready to experiment
with burning some DVDs.
Would this type, "Memorex 4.7GB 8x DVD+R (50-Pack Spindle) by Memtek"
