Comments from a 55-year old computer-stupid Mac lady who bought her

ASCII text editor needed15 Jun 2005 20:38 GMT8
I teach computer literacy (Windows based) and one of my students has a

Suddenly I can't close a message after opening it. I put it in trash but
if I try to delete it, it comes back to my In folder. Messages stay

Am I the only who has problems with PostgreSQL 8.0.1 {pgsql-8.0.1.pkg

It no longer works after a clean install of MacOS X 10.4.1. And after
reinstall of the two pkg-packages. The latter isn't even accepted at
OS of choice for my Mac IIci?15 Jun 2005 05:09 GMT22
In my neverending quest to revive ancient hardware, I just got ahold
of a IIci with 4 MB RAM, about 120 MB hard drive, using built-in
video.  I'm not planning to do anything fancy with it, and will
primarily be looking to run software of the same era.  Rebuilding
Anyone seen this PB  charging misbehavior?15 Jun 2005 04:18 GMT4
In the past week, my PB (10.3.9) has started showing a funny new
misbehavior.  It'll seem to be happily plugged into the charging dongle
the connector's light will be orange, and the battery timer in the
top bar will show a decreasing time.  Then suddenly I get the popup

How can I teach Carbon Emacs to find the Octave app I just installed?

iTunes and external hard drive15 Jun 2005 00:25 GMT1
I own a Powerbook G4 with a 40Gb hard drive.  Lovely machine, but the
hard drive is filling up with media files including an ever expanding
iTunes library (my CD collection would fill up the hard drive on its
own).

drop the Pages icon on Script Editor and get a message that the application is

DragThing query14 Jun 2005 18:03 GMT8
I'm learning to use DragThing; it's pretty nice.
But suppose I'm either in the Finder or doing a big task in some big
app,  and as a temporary interruption I open a small app or utility from
a hidden DragThing dock, perform some small task, then close the small
Apple, Intel & Endianness14 Jun 2005 17:24 GMT3
How much will Apple have to change the operating system in order to let
MacOS X and MacOS Classic {68K emulation including} run on an Intel

Remember that MacOS has always run in big-endian mode and that Intel has
