Very slow FTP server on Tiger 10.4.101 Jul 2005 00:10 GMT4
I regularly use the FTP server on Tiger 10.4.1 to connect my Mac Mini
to a RISC OS machine.  But having got this working well, I thought I
would ensure that noone else could get at the Mac over the internet so
set the Firewall on (in Sharing in System Preferences).
Confusing a server with two competing tabs in Safari?!30 Jun 2005 21:39 GMT5
I've just suffered through a problem while making two simultaneous
separate reservations at travelocity.com with Safari 1.3 under OS
10.3.9. I've seen the same kind of problem before. I'll describe it
below and ask if there is any workaround better than what I did.
Entourage & IMAP caching30 Jun 2005 18:41 GMT1
looking for help with using Entourage to access an IMAP account...
I can get Entourage (vX, OS 10.4.1) to access the IMAP account OK but
it seems that it will not remember the folder listing and is not
caching messages.  each time I move to a different folder Entourage
Firefox and cookies30 Jun 2005 16:46 GMT1
Running Firefox 1.0.4 on Apple Mac Powerbook using OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
For the usual reasons I've set Firefox to "ask me every time" before
accepting cookies.  However I've no objection to session cookies that
die when I end my session - most of them fall into this category so I'm
PDA or handheld directly synchable from Mac OS X Now Contact?30 Jun 2005 14:56 GMT1
Can anyone recommend or point a PDA newcomer to a PDA/handheld that's
directly synchable [1] [2] in _one_ shot from Now Contact in OS X?
[1]  Doesn't even have to be 2-way synchable; just accepting an update
or download from the master copy of my Now Contact address book on the

Guys, I'm just a PC tech who's trying to help out a friend.  My buddy
uses a G4 with Mac OS 9.2.  He recently purchased a LaCie 160 Gig
external FireWire hard drive.  He copied all of his projects to it (he

Hey! (Software Update)30 Jun 2005 08:40 GMT11
I just dl'd the iTunes and security updates and Software Update didn't
go thru that long optimization step afterwards.  So it was all very
quick and done.
Go figure
Entourage 2004 and Quotes29 Jun 2005 23:25 GMT4
The Mail composer of Entourage 2004 converts all straight quotes to
curly ones. There is a preference to avoid this, but it only works in
HTML mail. Not exactly what I want.
Does anybody know a way to write straight quotes in text only mail with
Missing "Print" Icon in iPHoto29 Jun 2005 23:17 GMT2
My friend and I both have iPhoto 5.0.2 (258) installed.
When I open iPhoto there is a "Print" icon at the bottom of the window along
with eight other icons.
When she opens iPhoto the "Print" icon doesn't appear but the remaining eight
Webpages on Mac OS929 Jun 2005 23:05 GMT5
I find a lot of webpages oddly looking (like missing pictures, functions and
so on) when using both Netscape 6 and MSIE 5 on Mac OS9.
I know that every webpage has to be created in order to be viewed correctly
on every system, but when the fact is that a lot of pages aren't, I ...
Platform-independent slide shows from an iPhoto Library29 Jun 2005 22:47 GMT2
I am relatively new to MacOS having purchased an iBook with 10.3.2 about
a year ago. I do however have a long career in programming behind me,
but have so far never created web pages.
I have used my iBook mostly to manage images, both scanned from old

iTunes 4.9, Podcasts and the shuffle29 Jun 2005 18:28 GMT2
I got the new version of iTunes today and set it up to work with my
previously subscribed casts.  I had been using PodCastTuner by having
it download to a Podcast Tuner playlist in iTunes.  From there I had a
smart play list that pulled 250 meg of unplayed casts out of the
