HELP: Mail crashes consistently in Tiger!12 May 2005 04:06 GMT8
Mail 2.0 crashes consistently for me after upgrading to Tiger. It
crashes whenever I try to open a message, whether in preview or in a
separate window, and whether that message is in a separate window or I
have Preview mode enabled. It does not seem to matter whether the
A few (seemingly) stupid questions12 May 2005 02:42 GMT4
OK, I know these are going to seem like stupid questions, and as a
networking professional you'd think I'd already know this stuff.  But,
when your day-to-day work doesn't really involve these types of
things...
What is "winmail.dat"?11 May 2005 23:48 GMT8
I occasionally get attachments sent from Windows machines that arrive as
winmail.dat files.  The Mac can't open them.  Does anybody know what causes
this, and what can be done about it?
Thanks =- Jim
Text Scrap Utilties11 May 2005 17:55 GMT7
I've used them all.  I was a rabid fan of a number over the years, but
since migrating to OSX, I haven't had difficulties with a number.
Amazingly, I'm still using an old carbon one NotePad Deluxe 2.3.4 a
lot.  I've bought Sticky Brain, which has now pooped-out on 10.4, and

I've tried three different browsers now---iCab, Safari and Firefox---
and on all three the download of the Nisus upgrade fails.

Pages Problems: is it Microsoft's fault?11 May 2005 02:18 GMT8
Help!!!
I am suddenly having a real problem with Pages. Let me explain. I
sometimes have to write grants, and discovered that Word v.X, while a
good word processing program, has problems when you imbed lots of
Entourage OS X repopping10 May 2005 23:29 GMT1
We have seen a problem where Entourage running under OS X 10.3.x is
redownloading messages that have already been popped and left on the
server.  It acts like it doesnt have a uidl file or that something is
wrong with it and when it connects to the server it suddenly sees  the
I Need Utilities to...10 May 2005 22:34 GMT3
I have way to much sludge in my "Services" menu and so don't even use
them.  But I'd like to.  First in the process is to thin it down by
80%.  How to do this?  Is this what Alfred does?  Is it worth the
effort for this one feature?  I can't really figure out what the heck
Preview and PDF problem10 May 2005 20:33 GMT5
I managed to produce a PDF file which shows plain garbage
in Preview and just fine in Adobe Reader 7.0.0. Ghostview
is also quite happy with the file.
What goes wrong? Here's a bit more information:
iTunes: find playlist of song10 May 2005 20:28 GMT9
This is probably ridiculously easy but how do I find what playlist a
song is in when I play it from the Library?
Thanks.

Appleworks 6 and old Clarisworks (2.1) compatibility?10 May 2005 15:52 GMT3
I've been happily running an old version of Clarisworks (2.1) for many
years -- no particular reason to upgrade since it was used for only a small
number of things.   I just got a new Mac mini and installed Tiger on it.
Appleworks 6 on it *says* it can read Clarisworks 2.1 files -- ...
Problem: Freezing during sleep on G5 running OS X 10.3.810 May 2005 06:07 GMT1
I have problem that is odd to me. With increasing frequency, my G5 (single
processor, 1.8Ghz) will go to sleep and lock. The monitor will not awaken.
Occasionally, the fan will blow very loud compared with the normal whisper
quite operation. I suspect this as the second fan kicking ...
Dashboard and Konfabulator10 May 2005 05:08 GMT23
When you look at the stuff on the Mac OS X website, the dudes at Apple
act like they created the concept of widgets.  From what I've seen, the
guys that made Konfabulator were the ones that invented the mini-apps
called widgets.  If that's the case, Apple isn't really giving them ...
Pepper for HTML10 May 2005 04:07 GMT7
There are probably divergent opinions from fans of various freeware text
editors, but I thought I'd ask here anyway.
I found Pepper <www.enterpriseutilities.com/> v3.5 I think.
Intended use: general text editing with good search+replace over multiple files,
