| OS X Calculator Bug? | 14 Feb 2005 17:25 GMT | 14 |
Can anyone confirm this bug (if so, I'll send a report)? This is using, per the about box, Calculator "3.1 (v3.2)" (whatever that means). If I try to enter, say, 1.03, the zero doesn't show up until I type the 3. This hold true for any zero coming after the decimal point. I ...

| Appleworks 5 WP and images | 14 Feb 2005 16:55 GMT | 2 |
We are working with an Appleworks 5 word processing docement and are in the process of adding some images. The images will be about 3X4" or so and we are learning about how to size them. One example is a 2.5 MB jpeg; when first inserted, it overwhelms the page as might be expected.

I have recently installed a logitech "cordless click" mouse on my Mac G4 PB. Everything is fine, except that OS-X does not save the mouse tracking settings. When I go into system prefs the mouse tracking indicator still indicates my preferred setting, but does not affect the mouse ...

| "Self Extracting" zip archives (.exe) | 14 Feb 2005 04:46 GMT | 2 |
Just tried to download the savings bonds info zip files from the Gov't. To make it easy, they're self extracting -- assuming you're running on windows -- or at least on intel. So, given that I'm running a G4, how do I get to the "real" zip file

| problems with terminal after updated to os 10.3.8 | 14 Feb 2005 04:11 GMT | 1 |
I just updated my os to 10.3.8 last night. Now when I open a terminal window, it is super tiny and I cannot enlarge it with the mouse, nor does it respond to my terminal inspector changes. The terminal inspector reports that the default font is (null) 0.0 pt and when I try to change

I've CCC'ed my iBook G4 HD to a LaCie 40 GB PocketDrive and now I want to test the result. The documentation tells me that I do this by selecting the LaCie target drive in the StartUp Disk pane and booting from it.

Hi! I am very new to Mac so sorry if this problem is obvious. Here it goes: every time I start iTunes now, it just sits there with the mouse cursor as a spinning color wheel and will not let me use it. It just appears frozen. I

| iWork/Pages and XML | 13 Feb 2005 20:19 GMT | 3 |
Hi all. Any Pages users out there? I'm starting to mess with Perl, and I got the idea of creating or editing Pages documents via XML. From what I've read, the native format is XML. I am an XML newbie as well as a Perl newbie, so any opinions

| converting Quark doc to InDesign | 13 Feb 2005 20:09 GMT | 6 |
I converted a Quark 4.1 document to InDesign (OSX). It worked fine, except paragraph rules that I had in Quark are not changeable from InDesign. I Googled for an answer and the only solution I found is to retype everything and apply new rules from InDesign. Has anyone found a

I have .js files set to open with dreamweaver, however, 4 times out of 10 I also open .js files to edit with TextEdit. When right clicking a .js file and choosing 'open with' I can choose to open with Safari or choose another application. Is it possible that I could get TextEdit ...

I just went into my 'startup items' preference to remove an item I no longer use. I noticed there is a "Microsoft AU demon" in there as auto-start. I am guessing it got installed as part of Microsoft Office X.

I get quite a few e-mails from Mac users who have found my personal web site while looking for information on Macs in amateur astronomy -- and quite a few from amateur astronomers who are Windows users interested in switching to the Mac, but who don't want to start a flame war by
