impressions of Pages02 Feb 2005 17:35 GMT15
Its a really great application. Comparing it to Word is like comparing a
Stearman to a Cessna 182 because they're both aircraft. Pages and Word
may be both be word processors, but they are very different. I've been
waiting for a good, non-bloated Cocoa word processor. Nisus ...
NAV needed on OS X Mac?02 Feb 2005 17:08 GMT7
In years past I used Norton Anti Virus on my pre OS X Macs.
Since moving to OS X, I've read here and elsewhere that most users feel
it is not needed. I believe mainly due to the few if any Mac viruses.
Is that still the prevailing wisdom??
What Happened to the Sherlock Dictionary?02 Feb 2005 15:13 GMT9
I use the Sherlock dictionary many times daily.  Recently, it started
bringing up entries only from Princeton's WordNet instead of the several
dictionaries it used in the past.  This is *very* bad.  Today I tried
getting synonyms for the noun, "criminal" but it would only show me ...

Giving AppleScript a Kick In The Pants02 Feb 2005 09:33 GMT1
I have an AppleScript that, at a certain point in its execution, pauses
until a certain time is reached by looping and continuously checking
the time until the desired time is reached, at which point it breaks
out of the loop.
iCal question02 Feb 2005 03:16 GMT2
This may be a stupid question, but I can't figure it out.  Is there a way
to set an event to pop up a reminder some time before the event (say, 1
week), AND on the day of the event as well?  I have a few set to 1 week
pre-event reminders, and I was a little surprised when on the ...

Help requested in opening a MacDraw2 file01 Feb 2005 23:46 GMT3
Is there any kind soul out there who can open a MacDraw2 file and send
it back as, say, a JPEG, or any other openable format?
Unfortunately Graphic Converter will only open MacDraw1 files: Thorsten
Lemke tells me that Apple never did release the file format details for
JPEGs open with Explorer instead of Photoshop01 Feb 2005 22:41 GMT11
I have JPEG files that keep being opened by Explorer, even though I used
File Exchange to assign Photoshop to open them.
In File Exchange > File Translation, I clicked on "Add" and selected one
of the sample JPEG files, then I clicked on Application (Translator) and
Audio Books01 Feb 2005 22:18 GMT15
I listen to mp3s of Audio Books and Newscasts and wanted to find out if
the ipod was capable of stopping in the middle of a track and then
resuming next time I turned on the ipod?
Thanks,
Safari and iframes01 Feb 2005 18:44 GMT2
I don't have a Mac, nor access to one. But a user of my website
report that the page doesn't present properly using Safari.
(He is using v 1.2.4 (125.12) under OS OS 10.3.7.)
Now, it appears the iframe in the page does not appear,
Saving web page to open up into MS Word01 Feb 2005 15:13 GMT1
On a PC running IE 6.0, I can do File > Save As "Web Page, complete".
This will save the .html file as well as any images and style sheets
used in the file. I can then open the saved page into MS Word and all
the images/text are there.
iPhoto 5, 500MHz G3, poor performance01 Feb 2005 14:09 GMT5
Yesterday I upgraded to iLife 05, mainly because I wanted to stay
current on iPhoto. To my chagrin, while the program functions, and has
some useful new features -- especially a much improved tool for removing
red eye, about which more later -- it's so slow it's almost unusable. ...
Wanted: Cheap Web Page Editor01 Feb 2005 13:45 GMT7
I'm looking for a simple, cheap Mac program (ideally shareware) that
will let me create a simple but good looking web site.
I have been using Trellix, a PC program that came on a CD in a bargain
bin book. It's surprisingly powerful, but it brings out a nasty bug in
