writing a script and scheduling its use10 Feb 2005 16:14 GMT10
I am completely new to scripts and quite new to Macs/Unix.  I am
needing to write a script that will copy important folders from my hard
drive to my external drive each night.  How do I do this?  I know no
commands or syntax or how to schedule the script once I write it.
Automate Launch & Close of App on a Schedule10 Feb 2005 14:45 GMT6
What's the easiest way to automate closing an application at a specific
time, then opening it again several hours later? AppleScript?
QuickKeys?  We need to close certain things overnight so they can be
backed up, then open them again before we get in in the morning.
how to open 15 year old superpaint files10 Feb 2005 05:26 GMT4
I had superpaint MS1.1.  First on the 512K mac and then on the SE 30.
I can't for the life of me open those documents.  I had them stored on
a zip100.  I recently found someone who could put that to a cd.  The
files are not recognized as superpaint files by GIF converter (not

Hello, I've never used hdiutil before and I was hoping I could get
someone to come up with a sample script to burn a DVD .img file created
using DVD Imager.
Disk Utility will not let me select a burn speed (the option is greyed

I'm not sure if this is possible; I'm a complete novice at this.
How can I run this on my Mac? Is it possible?

Will eMac OS 10.3.5 Disks Install on a G4 Quicksilver?09 Feb 2005 13:47 GMT3
I am considering purchasing a set of Apple eMac Software Restore disks (to
obtain OS 10.3.5) originally bundled with an eMac.
Will these disks install OS 10.3.5 on an older G4 PowerMac, specifically a
G4 733 Mhz Quicksilver model, or are they eMac-specific?
iPhoto Library Folder Placement Confusion08 Feb 2005 23:13 GMT1
Over time, I've created several different iPhoto libraries using the
iPhoto Library Manager app.  As I get ready to reorganize (rather,
organize for the first time) two years of photos, I'm now realizing
that, not only do I have libraries on two different drives, I've also
Photo file sizes08 Feb 2005 22:33 GMT6
First post here...hi, guys...ummm...
When I load a photo with preview and rotate it 45 degrees
then save it, then load, rotate back and save the file size
goes down sometimes dramatically but the dimentions are still
TextEdit docs printing in reduced size?08 Feb 2005 20:32 GMT2
When I print newly composed TextEdit rtf docs, they seem to come out
substantially demagnified or reduced in size  -- e.g., lines shown as
6.5" wide in the on-screen ruler print about 4" wide; 14 pt type comes
out looking like 8 or 9 pt.  Setting the scale at 150% in the Print
Is it true that Pages doesn't support fixed leading?08 Feb 2005 20:04 GMT2
Can it really be true that Pages doesn't support fixed vertical leading?
I have played with a copy on someone else's computer and couldn't find
this option.  If it's possible I'd sure like a pointer to it.
I can't imagine a program with page layout capabilities that wouldn't
iwork - something missing?08 Feb 2005 19:44 GMT48
Reading about the iwork announcement today - the "new version" of apple
works.   I'm thinking it's about time they upgraded it.   Of course,
Apple screws this up as well.
So we have appleworks, which has word processing, spreadsheet, database,
Right-Click Not Working08 Feb 2005 19:01 GMT6
I just received my Mini yesterday and did a transfer of information from my
powerbook via firewire.  All looks good, seems good, but there is strange
behavior happening when I use right-click.
I have a 2-button, scrollwheel, Microsoft optical mouse that worked just
Transferring My Old Contacts/Messages w/o A New Microsoft Office?08 Feb 2005 16:29 GMT1
Hello, I just bought a Mac Mini.  Up to now, I'd been using a PowerMac
5400 running OS 9 (the computer, by the way, can't run OS X or, of
course, any programs that require OS X).  In the past, if I had wanted
to transfer my Entourage information (calendar, address book, stored
