i'm trying to run gimp from the command prompt (i tried both xterm and
terminal.app -- and in both cases i had the X Server on)
i still get this message
"Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:"

I am completely new to scripts and quite new to Macs/Unix.  I am
needing to write a script that will copy important folders from my hard
drive to my external drive each night.  How do I do this?  I know no
commands or syntax or how to schedule the script once I write it.

What's the easiest way to automate closing an application at a specific
time, then opening it again several hours later? AppleScript?
QuickKeys?  We need to close certain things overnight so they can be
backed up, then open them again before we get in in the morning.
