How to make Mac OSX rememember to open a file in emacs?28 Feb 2005 22:26 GMT9
I am using mac OSX 10.3. I created a small text file with emacs
("enhanced carbon" 21.3) but when I double click on the file's icon it
open in textedit, not emacs.  This is quite unusual for macosx where
most document open in the app that created them

Duke's remaining scholarship guards: JJ Redick, Daniel Ewing, DeMarcus
Nelson.  Shades of 1996.  Where's Jay Heaps when you need him...
iTunes 5?28 Feb 2005 20:31 GMT8
I'd like to buy iLife '05 (mostly for the nested directories in iPhoto),
but I already have iTunes 4.7.1, and I'd feel pretty silly if they
released iTunes 5 and I had to buy iPhoto 5 again to get it.  Does
anyone know a) if they're likely to update iTunes to 5 before the next
Panther Disk One Failure28 Feb 2005 15:33 GMT28
My disk 1 goes to 97% verification and then gives an error message. I
ordered a second disk from MacConnection and it did the same thing. I
have since returned to Jag 10.2.8. Any body have any ideas about what is
happening?

Does anyone know whether this actually fixes the problem, where it fills
up your hard drive with junk, or not?

Edit DVD (VOB file)28 Feb 2005 10:27 GMT3
how do I go about doing this - (What application)
I know I can rip the DVD to mpg4 then edit with Quicktime, and then
probably use iDVD and/or iMovie to burn the resulting edited file back
to DVD (for play on standard DVD player [on a TV])
Rerospect backup folder does not appear28 Feb 2005 04:19 GMT2

completion I see a title for Backup set but no folder that I can open.
A previous backup allowed me to open and use items. What am I not doing?

FBI Alerts Public to Recent Email Scheme
The FBI warned the public to avoid falling victim to an on-going mass
e-mail scheme wherein computer users receive unsolicited e-mails
purportedly sent by the FBI.  The e-mails then direct recipients to
Hi-Res Still Clips from iMovie?27 Feb 2005 19:31 GMT4
Is there a way to pull higher resolution still clips from iMovie than
permitted by using the 'create still frame' command from the edit menu?
What alternatives might there be, in the event that iMovie is limited
to it's lo res still frame function?
Help with setting up an email alias27 Feb 2005 17:12 GMT1
I have switched my ISP (again!), at least this time from a 56k to
broadband. I purchased a domain name through POE Hosting, but don't have
a web site, and will not be implementing one immediately, if ever. The
purchase of the name was just to avoid ever having to change my email
itunes on wnidow and mac27 Feb 2005 01:04 GMT2
I've recently got mac mini and I'm trying to port my music library from
the pc to mac.  Using the "Add Library" function seems to be doing the
job except that it creates two copies of each song: song.mp3 and
song1.mp3; identical in every respect.  What's up with that?

2 questions about playlists26 Feb 2005 17:51 GMT2
I'm in the process of transferring to a new computer.  Rather than clone
my current drive to an external I'd rather start fresh.  How can I not
lose my playlists?
Also, I'm looking for a way to transfer just one playlist to another
Microsoft Word X opens a listening TCP port26 Feb 2005 17:22 GMT16
In reviewing the listening ports on my system to ensure that I don't
have any rogue processes running of which I am not aware, I noticed
(using "netstat -ta | grep LISTEN") that anytime I launch Microsoft
Word a new TCP port is opened in a listening state.
