Low Format of Jump drive?19 Nov 2008 23:55 GMT5
My son was given a 256MB jump drive loaded with advertising in about 190Mb of it.
Now he's watched the adverts he wants to reformat the drive and use it for
something useful, like saving his Playstation games.
It seems to have been partitioned for Windows as a Read/Write section ...
British voice synthesiser for OSX10 Nov 2008 23:53 GMT-
Is there any good freeware non-American voice available for text to
speech in OSX? Cepstral makes some commercially that aren't bad, and the
price isn't unreasonable, but I don't need it enough to pay as much for
it as they are asking at this stage. if there were a freebie that did
667 DDR2 SDRAM10 Nov 2008 23:22 GMT-
I have 2, 512 MB chips of 667 DDR2 SDRAM.
(Also have 2, 256 Mb chips of the same memory, which I doubt anyone
would want)
I know that some Œolder¹ mac minis came with only 512 MB Ram (2, 256
Accidentally closing finder06 Nov 2008 01:46 GMT12
I'm sure you've all done it - you have a lot of programs open and you
CMD-TAB through them to close them using CMD-Q, one after the other, but
accidentally close finder instead of the program you intended. The only
way to get finder back without restarting is to quit every other ...

Canon LBP-5000 with AIrport Express28 Oct 2008 05:17 GMT4
Anyone successfully using this combination?
The Canon's been great plugged into the USB port of the MacBook Pro,
have just added the Airport, internet and Airtunes work fine.
The Airport Utility seems to intermittently recognise the Canon, but
Odd fault on B&W G324 Oct 2008 07:24 GMT2
When trying to install OS 9 the install process freezes with 8 minutes
to Go, and when trying to install OSX it comes up with a message saying
I need to restart. The message does not say why but I discovered it is
caused by a kernel panic.
Installing Leopard on Lenovo T6008 Oct 2008 13:52 GMT5
I got hold of Leopard installation DVD and managed to install
Leopard on an external USB Harddrive for a Lenovo T60. The only
problem is can't get it to access the LAN port? I noticed the link
light on the port doesn't even come up. Could this be because it

A question about the mac pro05 Dec 2008 11:35 GMT4
When I was setting up the new monitor we got today, i'd unplugged the
front audio cables so that we could reach round. I was under the
impression that there was a headphone out at the back of the case so I
tried plugging the cans in to either of the sockets with no results. I
Sending a Topfield recording to Mac user.05 Dec 2008 11:29 GMT44
The Mrs has asked me if I can put a show I recorded on the Topfield
5800 PVR recently onto something for her workmate to watch at home,
either on a std DVD > TV or his Mac. He can't watch it via iPlayer as
he doesn't have broadband (although I assume I could download it here
cheap colour laser printer reccomendation05 Dec 2008 11:22 GMT6
I intend to buy a cheap colour laser to replace the B&W one that died
recently following a power cut.
I've reread the big thread earlier in the year but the colour
recomendations there are too expensive for me.
Songbird...05 Dec 2008 11:00 GMT60
Anyone tried this yet?
I just downloaded it today, just for a try out. I have to say, I'm quite
impressed. Although the library browser is just a bit too much of a
rip-off from iTunes.
PDA on a Mac05 Dec 2008 10:04 GMT17

Macbook this is the most important thing.  Not too ...
Anyone using HSBC Interet Banking for Business?05 Dec 2008 09:41 GMT6
We are on Panther, using Safari 2
It all worked fine up until a couple of weeks ago when HSBC made some
hanges at their end.  Since then it hasn't worked for us.  We can log
on, but the browser hangs at various points.  Same result with Firefox.

Apple recommending antivirus?04 Dec 2008 23:32 GMT10
"Apple encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities
so that virus programmers have more than one application to
circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more
difficult."
