I am having a problem where no matter what I do, I end up with pages that
have huge unprintable areas (like a bottom margin of 3.5"). I have trashed
the Normal file, and it gets reconstructed when I create a new document. I
choose Page Setup, US Letter. When I try to set margins where the bottom
margin is 1", Word says that that is too big for the current page size, and
asks to set it to that size. The new value is 3.5", which is way too big.
I was having a similar problem yesterday, where no matter what I did, my
page size was 12" x 16", with really weird margins.
I am running Microsoft Office 2008 on a 2 GHz DP Mac G5, Leopard 10.5.2, 2
GB RAM, Word version 12.0.1. Is this a known problem? Is there something I
can do? It's driving me nuts.

Hi Syd -
What margin values are you trying to use? What are the other settings in the
dialog?
Did you ever get around to checking for an updated printer driver? Since
your replacement of Normal seems to work until you try to make a change I
have a sneaking suspicion the driver may be a factor.

Updating the HP driver for the printer I was using seems to have solved the
problem. Thanks.

Glad it helped Syd - and thanks for the confirmation!
