read-only docs

All my word doc seem to land up "Read-only" documents even though I have not selected the tick box in the preference > secrity?
can you help?

Check the "Stationery" bit in GetInfo.  If that is set, the document will
open read-only.

Make sure that your login ID has read and WRITE access to the folder that
contains the documents.
