It is not possible to resize your document window if you happen to have the endnote panel open. You have to close the endnote panel to resize the window, then open it again. Tedious. This happens only in draft mode. If you're in page mode, you can resize the window even with the endnote panel open.

I would use Help>Send Feedback to tell Microsoft about that one! I don't
think they know about that one yet, and they won't read it in here.

For the archives--Might be a Leopard issue--I cannot reproduce this in
Word 2008, 12.0.1, OS 10.4.11, PPC--draft view, showing the endnote pane.
