Uhh ... That's rather dumb isn't it?? Should it take its cue's from the
System Clock.
Of Course on windows PC's that can cause problems as well.
Because hardly anyone set the Date and time. and when The CMOS battery
gives up the ghost they rarely replace it. ;-).
I'm all time receiving email from PC folk That have dates set somewhere
in 1999. Or they are send from 20 years in the future.
The latest OSX versions have the smarts to pole the time server at start
up and sets date and time if needed even if the PRAM battery is depleted.

Back when Word was developed in 1983 the operating environment was
rather different. I'd guess the behavior is now a feature. Who knows
what mayhem would ensue if that were changed.

I am going to agree with Phillip for the second time tonight :-)
It's a dumb design. The only reason they got away with it up to now is that
Word wouldn't RUN that long in the past :-)
Phillip, you haven't used a Windows computer since 1999, so you wouldn't
know that Windows now sets the real time clock from the Internet once a week
if it can.
What *I* blame PCs for is storing the time as a "local" time. Sensible
computers set the system clock to GMT so you don't get weird conflicts when
you step off a jet plane a few hours before you got on it.
Cheers
