Thanks for the advicebut the document was not open when I tried this . . . The message cited in my posting was what came up when I tried to open it using the instructions.
OK - but somewhere along the line that's apparently what happened:-) It's
very east to do.
To fix it try this: Open the data document, display the Mail Merge Manager
palette. In the first section (Select Document Type) click the Create New
button & select Restore to Normal Word Document command, confirming the
Resore. Then save & close the document. You should then be able to use it
again as a data source.
To help avoid the problem in the future don't click Create New in the MMM
while the data source document is the active window - that's how it usually
happens. Either close the data doc before creating a new main doc or at
least create a new blank doc before hitting Create New.
