How can I get the header on the 2nd page to be different from that on first page? I know how to do this on a PC, but I just switched to mac, and I inserted a section break after the first header, thinking that that would enable me to delete the header from the 2nd page without deleting it on the 1st page. Thanks!

Hello Hayley -

Unless it serves some other purpose you don't need a Section Break:-)

Just go to the 2nd page, dbl-click the Header area then check teh box on teh
Header and Footer section of the Formatting Palette labeled Different First
Page. Type your Header content in the 2nd page's Header area. If you do want
content in the 1st page header just navigate to it & enter the content.

I called tech support and had to pay for this advice! Open document header or footer. ONCE the header is open, you can open formatting palette (under View) and a Header and Footer tool bar is visible. This is invisible unless your cursor is in the header or footer. Then you can selct different first page.

{Giggle}  In here, we pride ourselves on knowing a lot more about Word than
Tech Support does, and we give away our knowledge for free.

So you know where to come next time :-)

Seriously, "Tech Support" is junior call centre operators who know less than
you do about Word:Mac.  They're reading scripts from the screen.

In here, you are talking to people who earn their living in Word, or consult
to major corporations on the subject, and have careers stretching back forty
years.  All the knowledge we have is available to you, for the price of a
smile and a thank-you :-)

I am trying to publish a book on word, and cannot get the header on the odd pages to be different from chapter to chapter - is that possible to do? Thank you - you guys are great. Loys

It's certainly possible. Are you using Odd & Even Section Breaks?

If not, post a NEW message giving complete details about your document, Word
version, OS version, etc. When you reply in an unrelated thread we have
absolutely *nothing* to go on.
