Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: intel Hi, For some reason, no matter how many times I hit continue in the MS office Set Up Assistant it will not continue. I have tried to repair the disk permissions on my iMac using the disk utility. I also removed Office from my applications to the trash and reinstalled it. Can you please help thx. This probably won't help, but it might assist in understanding what is going on... The Office 2008 installation uses the Apple Installer tool to install itself. A limitation of the Apple Installer is that it will install software ONLY to the boot partition. It gets a bit confused if there are other volumes visible while it is working. 1) Assuming that your Office 2008 is installed on the boot volume, 2) Allow it to get to the "Continue" stage. Then quit it. 3) Disconnect any remote disk volumes you have. 4) Attempt to start any of the Office applications (preferably not Entourage). If we get lucky, the Setup Assistant will load and run through to completion at that point. Then you can plug the disks back in. If you need to install to a volume other than the boot volume, allow it to complete installation to the boot partition, then drag the Office 2008 folder where you want it. Is there a way to completely remove MS Office from my mac and I could try a clean reinstall? In your Office 2008 folder in your Applications folder, you will find a "Remove Office" application. Run that, then try again. If it "won't run" then: 1) Quit all Microsoft applications. 2) Track down all instances of pre-2008 Normal template on your computer, and drag them to your desktop. The file is called simply "Normal" and has no extension. 3) Find and drag the file Normal.dotm to your desktop. Unless you have moved it, it should be in /Users/ ~ /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/ 4) If the following files exist, Remove or rename them: ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Settings (10) ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Settings (11) User/Library/Preferences/com.Microsoft.Word.plist User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008 (the whole folder!) 5) The entire Microsoft Office 2008 folder. Seem to recall is was related to a corrupted font. i had installed Office 2008 on a intel powerbook pro, with parallels; OS 10.4.10. office 2004 was already on this machine. The 2008 install worked just fine, and I started up Word 2008; OK. Yesterday i upgraded OS to 10.5.2. Started up Entourage 2008 and i was painfully slow. Took 10 minutes to fully load/display inbox. So, i trashed 2008 and reinstalled it. Can't get past the setup screen, as others have reported. Removed apps and preferences several times, and no improvement. Removed Office 2004 AND 2008 and preferences, and reinstalled 2008 several times; can't get past the setup screen. doesn't matter whether i use the setup assistant or start word to get to setup; no go. Removed everything again, and installed Office 2004. Setup screen fails. Gets to license accept and when clicking accept, setup crashes/goes away. In summary, i have NO Microsoft Office/any version on this computer, and cannot install any. i think this problem is common enough, that MS needs to quickly collaborate with Apple and GET THIS FIXED! -jb44mag > In your Office 2008 folder in your Applications folder, you will find a > "Remove Office" application. My understanding is that Microsoft has already done their end, and we're just waiting on Apple. Microsoft can't roll out their fix until Apple puts out theirs, otherwise the Microsoft fix will break it for everybody... In the meantime, the "fix" (the only one that works reliably...) is "Don't go above OS 10.4.11 if you want Office 2008 to load quickly!" I have no idea how long Apple will take to do their bit. Given that this issue doesn't hit any of their applications, they're probably not in that much of a hurry :-) So if this is a major issue to you, roll back to OS 10.4 and wait. After 20 or so attempts to install 2008, i move the 2004 Microsoft User Data Ÿ to the trash. installed Office 2008 and the application setup worked fine.....finally. after Office installed an empty Micorsoft User Data, i moved the 2004 microsoft user data to the desktop, started Entourage and imported 2004 identity info into 2008. Good thinking :-) When Office 2008 (any part of Office 2008...) starts, it checks that it can read the Office database in the MUD. If it can't, or it attempts to convert the Office 2004 one and fails, then you can get this problem. It's a bug they are working on. Note that if you use Entourage, moving the MS User Data folder to the trash will delete all email, etc--if you use the Word address book, that will also be gone. If you have customized your Normal template in Word, that will also be gone. Instead, you can right-click and Archive it, rename it, and move it somewhere else, to prevent it interfering without risking losing data.
