Using Word 2004 for Mac Version 11.3.8 (070817) after today's Apple
System Security Update 2007-009 (Power PC) v 1.1, the following things
occur:

1) If I drag a xxx.doc file to the trash, I get the message "The item
'xxx.doc' will be deleted immediately. Are you sure you want to
continue?:

2) Working in Word with only a single document and no other programs
open, I can save a document once. If I try to save it with changes, I
get the message "Word cannot complete the operation because too many
files are open. (xxx.doc)"

3) When I restart the computer and try to open the file just saved, I
get the message "'xxx.doc' is being used by 'another user'. Do you
want to make a copy?"

Anybody know how to get hold of Microsoft?

Or does anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like Apple's update broke something that Word depends on? Do the
basics to try to reset the system to usual--start by repairing
permissions, shut down completely for at least a few minutes before
restarting--try a safe boot if neither of those work.
