I've installed office 2004 mac (standard edition w/ sp2) - first I
removed the office trial version on my computer.
The installation was successful [or so I thought] - now, when I select
a new blank document it opens w/ a picture of something that I had
worked on in the trial version of word.  So, I removed all word files,
removed office 2004 from my computer and re-installed but no luck.
Any idea how I can fix this?

First, removing and reinstalling is almost *never* a solution to a
problem on Macs - applications just don't corrupt that often.

And if you're *going* to remove Office, make sure you use the Remove
Office application.

In this case, the problem is your Normal template that is stored in your
~:Documents:Microsoft User Directory folder. With Word closed, delete
it. Word will create a new one when it next starts up.
